Installing Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

I've got a 2010 Fabia S, and I'm looking to get parking sensors installed. I'd like to go the more official way and get things wired into the Swing radio. I've contacted a couple of places, and they say that I would only be able to install rear parking sensors, but I've seen posts of people saying they've installed front sensors. Is this actually true? If so, where might I be able to buy the whole set of rear and front?

Whatever the case, you won't be able to see it on the stereo. It is possible though.

Unless you get the very expensive Skoda parts to retrofit I can't see any other way doing this.

To get the stereo display you have to use OEM parts from Skoda, otherwise its beep beep only.

I get that it would have to be OEM parts and that they are much more pricier than other solutions, but I was just wanting to get the full picture before deciding which path to go (I'm researching into other third-party solutions as well). I'd like to have a display of the sensors rather than just accoustic, but I'm a little unsure of having another permanently mounted screen in my car for security reasons.

If it is possible to get front sensors working with the swing radio, then I was wondering where I might actually find them to buy and what sort of price they are.

If anyone has any suggestions for third-party sensors, that would also be great. I'm currently looking at steelmate and park safe.

I have skoda OEM print sensors fitted by skoda and they do not appear on the swing radio. As far as I am aware of they are fitted after the factory, they are not able to give a graphical representation on the swing screen.

That surely should just be a coding issue. Code the headunit to say that the car has PDC, then simply enable the PDC display from the setup menu on the Swing stereo.

The Skoda dealer fitted sensors are a Skoda branded aftermarket kit, IIRC they cost around £180 fitted. They are basically the same type of kit you can buy off ebay for a fraction of the price. They dont integrate with the cars systems, they have their own beeper and tap into the reversing light circuit.

AFAIK, dealers will refuse to fit original factory fit kit such as cruise control, airbag switches, and parking sensors etc probably because of liability and insurance issues, and maybe the factory doesnt supply procedures cos they expect the customer to spec these as factory fit.

Hmm... Maybe this depends on the dealer? I've had cruise control fitted by Ridgeway Skoda, and it looks and acts identically to the one my Dad has in his Superb that was factory fitted.

Maybe, but I know that my dealer refused to fit an airbag switch on our Mk 1 or even supply the parts!

Well I'm 100% sure that mine don't come up on the screen. However, having used them it doesn't make a blind bit of difference as I don't look at the stereo anyway!

I have recently retrofitted rear PDC and did consider the hook up into amundsen but tbh the graphical representation would be a waste for me as I reverse by looking and listening to the sound as a distance indicator.

What was important to me though was the fit of the rear sensors as I wanted them to be flush fit. I opted for the Laserline kit and the quality is great.

A good feature is the sound as not only does the beep frequency increase but also the pitch of the sound does too.

Ive used the ebay ones in the past for our Fiat panda and for the money they are bang on. They cost around £14.00 and since fitting 3 years ago they have been faultless.

My swing head unit displays the picture of the car its actually very gd!
