Featured Replies

Ok 07 tdi 105 hp used as taxi since 08 at around 160'000 Mls was getting intermittent rattling from

Engine.suspected dmf but car running fine ,couple of garages would not commit fully to diagnosis.

Anyway have carried on to 230,000 Mls .finally noise is louder and all the time now.All mechanics

Are in agreement, it's dmf.So get a price, top of list main dealer £1300.00 local Indy £820.00

Shall I part ex and move on or stick with this faithful workhorse? We'll carried on to 255,000 Mls

Passengers keep asking what's all noise in engine.Today took car to local garage, fix any make so

I,m told.Get dmf myself and they will fit for £244.00 plus vat . Got parts Andrew Page £270.00 inc

Dropped car off 8 am. All done just after lunch.Car nice and quiet, result or what.

If you near Leeds check out Brown and Rose ls9 very professional staff, never used before but

Think I will be going back, Highly recommend

Do all mk2's have the DMF?

I,m told just about all modern diesels have them. Its the quest for

Smooth and quiet running.Problem seems to be huge torque that

Diesels create.

Mines petrol :)

Pretty sure it's only 2 ltr and 1.8 turbo patrols that have dmf

Could be wrong.Sure somebody will correct me if not so

Last post meant petrol,s only patrol I know is 4x4

most modern derv have them as above to make things smoother.
The prices listed above are normal, if you can, shop for parts your self.

I was quoted £700+ by my local indy. £230 labour and the rest parts. I looked and there are a few places selling luk and sachs kits or clutch and flywheel for £300 so ive gone for that. Car is in for the work as we speak.

You can get the flywheel from Euro Car Parts for £282 plus £5.99 for the bolt kit. So that price was good.

Unfortunately it's not a cheap job on any car due to the labour.

Hi Ryan- re

What mileage you at was your car rattling bad

it was at 94k. No rattling but the fly wheel was ****ed. It could more 1/4 turn before the damping took affect and it rocked aswell so the bearings were shot.
The car was mapped at about 75k and before I had it was used for towing so its not suprising it has gone. I had no noise but slipping in all gears

Hi mate, where abouts are you? Know two Indy garages local to me that specialise in octys

Is the DMF a Definite no no for DIY?

I have 111k on mine and wonder if i will have to change mine too at some point.

If you are competent in removing the gearbox then it's a big yes for DIY as you'll save yourself a heap of money.

Obviously it's quite a big DIY job and much easier if you can get the car up on a ramp etc.

Here's a video of how to do it on a Jetta TDI but it's the same concept for the Octavia might just be some subtle differences in terms of wiring routes and pipes etc:

This will give you some idea on the amount of work involved for DIY.

maybe not then lol

I have a trusted indy should i need it who will allow me to supply my own parts etc. think thats my best route should it need it.

We'll it is not technically a difficult job.but gearbox weighs about 70 kgs so needs help with it

Or good hydraulic tranny lift.pretty sure I could have done it myself.however my car used as taxi

So down time big issue.job done at local garage 5 hours.then back on road earning cash to pay for

Job.no brainier for me.
