Over heating indication

Featured Replies

Anybody had the temp gauge go into the red and the Maxidot come up with 'turn off engine, consult handbook' etc?

I turned the car off, waited a couple, of minutes. Checked under the hood, coolent level normal and didn't feel overally hot. Restarted motor and everything went back to normal settings and temperatures so wondered if this was an indication glitch?

Drove rest of way to work and no problem either, oil temp 97 deg so that was normal too.

VRS TDI manual.

Any ideas or had that happen too?

No not cold,  its summer over here. Was about 20 deg C when this happened at 7am in the morning. Had driven about 20mins on residentual streets since leaving the house, no long stops.
Car will go in for a scan tommorrow, could be something a software update might address the dealer said. Up until now I have never seen temp gauge go off the 12 o'clock position once warmed up.

How old is the car?

Could it have air locked and fooled the sensor, then turning off let the water shift round :-/ but wouldn't expect that on anything but a new car

March 2014, 23,000kms now? Hasn't done it again yet so....

The temp gauge (dial) is for water. Perhaps the fan stopped spinning or there was an airlock. Was you stuck in traffic at the time? If so I would suspect that the fan stopped working.

No, not stuck or stopped in traffic. Just normal driving around to work at 50kph etc. Fans werent going like when a regen happens either. I drove same route today and took the car for a thrash etc last night after work to see if it would change temp and nothing, still normal. I'm wondering if the sensor had a fault now or an airlock like you said. I opened coolant bottle last night and its past the min line and is normal colour so....hmmm??

Different temperature sensor for the fans I think than the tempt gauge - it could just be an intermittently faulty sensor?

Yes might be. Took it in and they plugged it in and nothing was shown in the logs so they just said to watch it.

I have to go back in two weeks for some steering column piece that needs replacing so will see if it reoccurs, non urgent recall notice apparently, anybody else had that done??
