White Smoke

Featured Replies

I have had my Octavia Vrs TSI for 13 months now and have covered just 5000 miles. I only travel 4 miles (30 and 40 MPH) to work so the car doesn't get thoroughly warmed up during these weekday journeys , however at other times I will do journeys which do completely warm the car/ engine up.

On occassions (and where safe to do so) I will use hard acceleration and when I look in my rear view mirror all that I can see is a cloud of white smoke/steam, there is no sign of overheating and I don't believe it is a head gasket problem.

Doe's anyone else experience this ? and is this due to the exhaust retaining large amounts of water/ moisture from my short low speed journeys, this happens both summer and winter, other cars that are accelerating with me don't seem to suffer the same problem !

I mentioned this to my dealer who said it was nothing to be concerned about, this is my 3rd VRS and I have never experienced this before.

Any feedback would be appreciated,

Cheers,

Ian

It's just because of the cold weather , nothing to worry about

I see it all the time at the moment in my TDi VRS. I believe that its just condensation within the exhaust system, that is evaporating off as the exhaust warms up. Shouldn't cause an issue.

Thanks for the quick replies, just found a previous thread on this, does seem that my short journeys are adding to the problem plus not doing enough enthusiastic driving these days !

Cheers,

Ian

I've done 6k in mine in 11 months (due to using the wife's car twice a week) mine will often cover the rear window with condensation when I accelerate hard but I think that's just down to the aero on the estate pulling the exhaust gasses up in the same way the back of the car gets covered in dirt.

Is it smoking heavily or just condensation?

Yep! Mine does the same. vRS TSI. floor it and it's like the wake of the flying scotsman. Scared me at first
