Fitting Skoda decorative door sills

Featured Replies

I want to fit the Skoda decorative door sills in the first link below to my new Yeti. Do I really also need to buy the fitting template in the second link to do this as it would add a whopping £27 to the overall cost?

This is the blurb for the latter.

The Skoda Yeti PA Door Sill Covers / Protectors Fitting Template is designed to be used in conjunction with the Skoda Yeti PA Door Sill Covers / Protectors, part number O5L0071303, to ensure they are fitted in the correct position. The Skoda Yeti PA Door Sill Covers / Protectors Fitting Template ensures that when fitting the Skoda Yeti PA Door Sill Covers / Protectors they offer the maximum protection for your door sills.

Quick reply no , I didn't need em, just a ruler and softpencil and a little patience!!

As above just make sure the sill`s are really clean and free from polish etc

I also agree with the above. Dead easy to fit without the template. I fitted them "dry" first and marked the position using masking tape before removing the sticky tape "skin".

When i collected mine from my dealer, the parts chap was really apologetic because he thought the rear pair had been damaged in transit as they both had a kink in them. Obviously he's not seen a set before as they were perfect - they are already curved to match the profile of the rear sills.

Thank you all for the answer I was hoping for.

I also fitted mine without a template and £27 seems a bit expensive for something that will only be used once.

BTW I cleaned my cills with isopropyl alcohol.

I prefer to drink my alcohol.

So having spent £72 on sill protectors, what can you put over them to stop the sill protectors from being scratched ?

lol...

Pays to warm both surfaces first (hair drier ok) after cleaning well first.

I've got mine to do when it warms up. I just have the plain plastic ones though.

Fitting the front seems OK apart from working out how far in or out of the car they should be so as not to interfere with the door seals.

The back ones seem more problematic as I can't find any curves or features to work off.

What does the fitting kit actually comprise of anyway?

So... what do they do? Just look pretty?

They protect the door sills from being scratched by clumsy feet.  I have them on my current Octavia and Fabia, and had them on my Mk 1 Octavia.

No scratches on my 4.5 year old sills!

They must work then

The sills work perfectly.

Don't know about the trims as I don't have them.  :giggle:

I am new to the Yeti forum and clearly haven't quite for to grips with the yetiquette here. Am I going to have to justify a mod before I can go ahead and fit it? ;)

Fit what you want.

It's your car, after all.

All I was saying that in the whole time I've had the car none of my sills have got scratched.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "fitting template" - certainly didn't need it when fitting mine.

BTW, they are (or were) SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than £72 on superskoda or skodadop. Think I paid about £30 the set when I bought mine.

DGW well spotted, there are I agree some who do have that adversion

if you're not too worried about having the chrome inserts you can get plain black sill protectors for less than the cost of the template - clicky

That's what I've got for mine.

They were about £18 from Skodateile but I did order lots of other stuff at the same time so delivery costs weren't an issue.

Where would I get isopropyl alcohol?

Chemist shop/Ebay/Amazon.

^^ Halfords glass not windscreen cleaner contains it! - also ancient audio/video tape head cleaner!
