mot help

Featured Replies

hey guys dont know if any of you seen my post the other day about my air bag light being on

but i blanked my airbag light today and my mate tried to tell me it will fail an mot because it doesnt show at all anymore but i got told itll only get an advisory ?

so i would like to know if it would fail or not (keeping in mind there is no air bag in my fabia at all)

thanks alot

kieran

If there's no airbag light, then it won't be brought up on the certificate

I'd have expected all Furbies to have at least a driver's SRS bag as standard?

On the presumption that they did, http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_540.htm point 2 seems to apply, and IMO you'd fail on reason 2 because the SRS light should show at switch on whilst the system self-tests.

Ring an MOT testing station and ask ?

yeah there's an mot station at the bottom of my road just thought id ask here first just incase i go down and he thinks im stupid lol

will go down next week mot not due till the 26th

thanks guys

There's no self test required for a SRS warning lamp, if it's illuminated and indicating a fault - it's a fail, if it doesn't illuminate - it's an advisory.  It's best to get the testing procedure from the official manual here:

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s05000401.htm

and not from a third party out of date source, here:

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_540.htm

Compare the differences.

However, your car should fail for a missing SRS component that was fitted as standard.  All UK Fabias had a drivers air bag and if you did attempt to argue that it was the one that didn't get one fitted the number of airbags fitted is encoded in the VIN.

Why not just buy an airbag from a scrap car and fit it?

My friend took his clocks apart and blanked it out with a piece of cardboard, just came as an advisory for not showing up I believe

Why would you want to drive a car without a safety critical device fitted?

i put a sports steering wheel on it because my steering wheel was all faded and cut ect

the air bag came on and my horn stopped working so tbh i really think its the slip ring thats away because they break really easy and there a comon fault with the fabias and ive got a mk2 as well and theres no airbags in the end of the day your seat belt / airbag can still kill you its a 50/50 dissension

What's a dissension?

I think you'll also fail on not having a horn, though best to read the guidance linked above to check.

Cheers mate, but i was always told that the warning lamp should illuminte for a few s on switch on and then go out. If it doesn't illuminate, then that indicates that the SRS has been removed or disabled, and if it doesn't go out, or flashes, that indicates an SRS fault. I've taken a link to your gov.uk for future use though.

Decision ....  LOL

It won't have a slip ring it's probably a clock spring and at a guess the ribbon cable has a broken wire

Aye it was the ribon wire but it's all fixed now and it passed it's mot last Friday failed at first but only failed on a bottom bush and a headlight bulb :) and only advisory was an oil leak
