Is it easy to bleed clutch 1.4 mpi

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if i've got a slave cylinder problem starting or if it might just be old fluid and needs bled

When car is hot the clutch pedal seems to have less good pressure but it's always been a bit like this in that over the two years I've had the car i've been aware of some free play at the top of the pedal. One morning this week it appeared to get much worse but some 5 days later it's not much different to how it's always been, just marginally worse.

I'll probably be changing the car (for a fabia 2 estate..) in next few months so ideally don't want to start spending if I can avoid it.

I see the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder. Could I just release it and try and pump some fluid through being careful to top up the header?

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If you really want to give it a go you'll need to learn to bleed a hydraulic system first as the same circuit operates the brakes. Maybe best to leave it to a garage to do. If I still haven't scared you off find a good 9mm combi spanner, not easy. Then a length of 5mm or so clear pvc tubing and a container. Remove the air inlet pipe to the airbox for better access. Use an Eezibleed or if you cannot afford one, a wife who will sit in the car and depress the pedal and hold it while you release the bleed screw then re-tighten it. The pipe connects to the end of the screw and into the container. Top up reservoir with the specified brake fluid every few pumps. Repeat until fluid is clean.
