I'm not even that tech savvy with cars, nor a massive petrol head, but that is one dream workshop I'd love!!

 

Question about video regarding gearboxes.  Why are straight cut stronger than slanted? In my RC helis, (OK very different, especially as they CNC plastic/delrin) they use slanted gears as they're stronger, but the car world says the opposite.

 

Just curious!

 

Also, call me a Grammar Nazi, but it really irks me when they call it a "damper".  It doesn't make your car damp, so why call it a damper?  It dampens shocks, ergo it is a 'dampener'...

Just watched them both.  I need a new career :/ Hate being in IT, waiting for the phone to ring. I need a job where I can be proactive and build stuff.  RC helicopters are great, but I don't get paid to make them :(

To dampen - dampening' is rather different, that is about making wet or damp.

 

'Damping - dampers'.
