My spare wheel dilemma....

Featured Replies

Hi all

I was reading recently (dunno whether it was here or on Bouncing Czechs) thats the octy RS minimum wheel size is 16" , due to clearance of the front brakes....if this is so , then why did my car come complete with a 15" steelie as a spare????...would this have been useless to me if i had a flat front tyre , or was Skoda expecting me to take off a back wheel , transfer it to the front and put the steelie on the back???? Now since then , i have bought myself a new RS alloy and tyre to use as a spare (not coz of fitment problems , as i ve only just thought of the potential problem , but more to do with looks if i had the spare on!!)...what i am wondering is , should i get in touch with Skoda UK and try and cajole another alloy outa them?...you have to admit that if my steelie didnt fit the front of my car id have been up **** creek had i had a flat....what do u reckon??

Try it and see if it fits. Alloy wheels have more metal than steel ones, ie they have to be chunkier/bulkier to achieve similar strength (I think). If Skoda have got it right, there should be more space for the brakes inside a steel wheel than an alloy one - size for size.
