vrs oct newbie ALERT?

Featured Replies

hi all , please can any one help a newbie?

its all stanard at the mo.

i have test drove an 02 octavia vrs with 62k on the clock

its up for

I'm not a proper tech but I have an OctyRS, and have been reading stuff here for a while...Not too much seems to goes wrong with them really, coilpacks are a weakpoint if they are the older versions (F, G or H i think) although a car with fsh should have had these changed at some point as a service bulletin was issued to dealers a good while ago.

Things not to worry about - the engine can sound a bit strange for the first half a second when its started - kinda like a diesel, its ok its just all them valves waiting for their oil to arrive.

Otherwise, its the usual, check its history make sure its not been crashed or stolen and if it goes, stops and drives ok it probably is!

Finally, make sure you get both remote keyfobs, they are not cheap to replace.

Enjoy!

thanks for the reply hope fuly after the hpi check i might be a proud owner fingers crossed :)

Make sure that the cambelt has been changed at 60k miles as these have been known to catastrophically fail

Other than the coil packs I can't think of any other causes for concern. I've had my Octavia vRS for 8 months or so and I am now up to 41k miles (I bought it with 34k miles on the clock) with no real problems other than a few minor trim rattles. :)

A well maintained car will give you no problems and keep a smile on your face :D:thumbup:

Good point - I think the official time to change is 80k, but failures have happened before then

My service schedule seems to imply cambelt changes every 120k miles for the 1.8T engines    I really hope they are not serious about this!!

Is it not 120,000 km?

Jeez you're right - 180,000km

the belt has not been changed yet he is having a service before i buy it but he says what you say 120k ?

i did ask skoda main agent and they said 120k but i think i will get it changed soon.......

I also read on here 120k but for peace of mind i got mine changed at 74k.

Another thing to listen out for when on test drive is knocking from the front. If there is knocking then this will 99 % be anti roll bar bushes of which ive just had mine changed at a cost of around 70 quid.

Hope you get it m8 as they are a great car

Why what's with 180,000 to change the belt? Sounds right to me...

Well thats what the book says, but after a workmate's Golf cambelt failed at 75k miles and destroyed his engine, I wouldn't trust a belt to last 120k miles (180,000km)
