Fag lighter....

Featured Replies

I'm bored in hospital so thought I would try and sort a little niggle on my car :p

Although the cigarette lighter in my car works (it charges the Sat-Nav etc) when I press the actual fag lighter down, it doesn't pop up once it's hot and it is a PITA to get out.

I assume I will need to replace the entire unit but I was wondering how much of a pain this will be?

The easiest way to sort this is to stop smoking and get a plastic plug for in the fag lighter making it a power point for sat navs, phone chargers etc - as they work the now then there won't be a fault!

Job done ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion Doc.

Anyone got a useful input?

I haven't done it, but I would guess that it's a pretty easy swap-out.  Centre console plastic moulding (around handbrake, gearstick etc.) is fairly straightforward to remove completely (fully described in Haynes). From there I expect the lighter socket is just held in by those plastic lock-tab type things.  I've got some photos somewhere of removing this (centre console) bit, I'll see if any of them might be useful, later.

Get well soon. :)

That's what I was expecting to see, centre console out.

Perhaps I'll save that job for a warmer day.

Thanks Wino.

It's the actual fag lighter bit you light the cig with. Swap it out for a new one as the base bit is fine, it's a sticky spring in the lighter part

Awesome stuff, Mattie. Will check the for sale section and see who's breaking a vRS :)

I can't see why it would have to be from a VRS. I did think they were totally generic but the old one from my Felicia seems to be too wide to fit in my Fabia, so I guess not.

I'll have a look for my one if you like Jay?

I've got the compete unit somewhere

Thanks for the offer, Charlie, but Mattie above reckons that I just need a new lighter but and not the complete unit and I've messaged someone who's breaking a Fabia .....

Appreciate the offer though mate

+1 for the lighter bit that you take out. But although I'm an ex smoker, I never used my in car one on any car I owned pre stopping smoking, or used the ashtray, and I keep my ashtray full of other bits to stop it being used. Both can make the car smell more than just smoke, which Febreeze WILL KILL.
