Heated seat... not heating today!

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

My sister has a Fabia TDI Elegance.  Her drivers seat has suddenly stopped heating but passenger works fine.

I'm guessing it's either the switch or the control unit under the seat as I think the fuse covers both seats.  Is there any easy way to identify if it is the control unit or not?  I was tempted to grab a used switch to try but if its not that then it could be a wasted £15.  I don't think the car can feedback the status of the heated seat via VCDS? In fact I'm sure it can't...

If its the controller then they look impossible to find used and expensive for what they are new.  Perhaps I should take a whim on a switch?  Are they prone to failure?

Many thanks :)

Yeah, there's only one fuse (15A) for both seats. Might be time to get a multimeter out and check under the seat to see if it's getting any voltage and work back from there.

I'm digging out a wiring diagram for the seats for another member tomorrow so if you need it too let me know.

Saved the diagrams off her a while ago, this is what I have...

If the plugs are the same and you have a spare hour or two, swap the seats round?

Put the passenger seat in the drivers side and plug it in, see if it heats up.

It's a free way to eliminate everything up to the seat.

Thanks for all the ideas and wiring diagrams.

I'm heading up to see her this weekend so will see what I can figure out.  The switches seem to have different part numbers but if they'll interchange, i'll give that a go to begin with!

I mean the full seat, not just the switch on the dash. They should be the same plug under them.

IMO (I could be wrong), the usual reason for them stopping working is a break in the circuit on the seat.

yup break in the circuit. Mine was on the base. Take out seat cover and it should be obvious.
