Ordered my vRS after much thought :-)

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm going to join the others and display my excitement at the prospect of collecting my new car.

Purchased a silver manual combi with -

Black design pack

Sunset

Red seams

Standard anthracite Gemini wheels.

It's at port and will be collected on 2nd March.

We looked at Scout but we're not as impressed as we thought we would be and really looked forward to trying scout with 184 DSG. If you're brutal with it, it's certainly quick off the mark but I found it to try and change up too early and would dither / be completely unresponsive trying to enter on to a roundabout having not quite stopped.

Ideally wanted a steel grey combi with black pack plus but we were not willing to part with £1000 for winter tyres but neither did we want to not have such awesome wheels on the car for 5 months when that would be why we'd have bought it.

Few things of note -

Quite like the sound generator but can it be switched off to avoid motorway drone?

No spare wheel on this one. Take it you get a bottle of foam? Been quoted silly money for a vRS specific spare wheel and tools.

Steering wheel is very pleasing to hold.

I've found out, skoda do not do Skoda approved Eibachs for it. Like what they do for my Rapid Sport. It had better sit nicely!

Will be getting the roof gloss black vinlyed.

Roll on 2nd March and bye bye outdoor 140 4x4 Yeti - itself a great car.

Cheers chaps and chap-ettes!

Dave

The engine noise is selectable via the vRS mode button. It's only on in Sport mode, or if using Individual mode and you choose to have it on.

Oh, it's a 184 diesel as we do decent mileage.

And even better, we got a frankly unbelievable personal contract hire deal. Total no brainer!

The engine noise generator thing was completely unexpected but pleasant nonetheless. Does a Golf GTD have it do you know?

I'll be interested to see how the engine is to live with. My brother in law has a new ( mk7) Golf 184 GTD and his mpg is frankly ridiculous at around 37 over a tank. I'd be expecting around 45mpg over a tank, calculated properly. Especially with the miles and journeys we do. He also has about a gazillion re-gens a day.

Feeling good and looking forward to it :-)

See my signature for calculated figures. Mid 40s is realistic. The car mainly does 25 mile each way commute on primarily 50 mile per hour rural roads.

It's a sweet engine with plenty of grunt. The only thing that lets the car down is very poor front end grip on pull away, the torque just overpowers the grip if you try to move with any pace.
