mystery wires

Recommended Posts

i have a 07 fabia 2 1.4tdi, there is a brown 2 pin connector hanging down under the front bumper near the power steering pump, one side comes from a thin y shaped branch coming from the loom (the other side of this y goes to a connector that is on a bracket on the engine). there was something connected to this brown plug as it had the broken other half of the plug with the pins partially pulled out.

there is also two thin wires hanging down, these are yellow and white and brown and white.

it looks like these might be meant to go to each other but they both seem to come from the same part of the loom above so not sure? the outside temperature display is not working, and the front bumper has been replaced. also the steering light on the dash is on but this might be unrelated as it reports the steering angle sensor is faulty.

does anyone know if these two pairs of wires should be connected to each other or what they should be connected to?

these look like the brown and blue wires which go across the front of the gearbox to the alternator

one of them increases the alternator output at low revs, when broken the old mk 1's used have issues with flat batteries and it was a common problems on the 1.9PD diesels

I think the brown connector was previously plugged into the outside temp sensor, which probably got torn off it when the bumper was replaced.

The Wht/yel and wht/brn wires are foglight related, I think.  Does/did the car have front fogs? Do they both work?

thanks for the replies, the two wires hanging down turned out to be the outside temp sensor, that's now working again.

still a mystery what the brown plug is, car never had front fog lights (no switch). the alternator is the other side and all looks ok.

This thread refers to the alternator wiring that bluecar1 referred to (on a mk1 Fabia) http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/247393-dfm-wiring-aka-alternator-sense-wire-asr-faults-no-battery-light-alternator-not-charging-etc/

The plug with the alternator signal wires is the bottom one in that picture, but there's a brown one just above it...

Have a look at the front of your gearbox, see if you have a similar bracket with an unmated brown connector.

Not sure what it is functionally, without looking tomorrow.
