Superb mk2 MF steering wheel fit a 2005 mk2 octavia?

Featured Replies

I am currently selling my 2011 mk2 Skoda superb multi function steering wheel on eBay and have been asked by the winner if it will fit his 2005 mk2 octavia?

Really helpful of him to ask me after he has won the item...

Any help much appreciated.

As I understand it, the multifunction steering wheel requires a special control module. The steering wheel itself should fit.

Don't sell it to him, the Octy2 is very old tech he'll have nothing but problems and you'll get nothing but phone calls saying "you said" etc, as AU says it will need a controller unit which is far newer than the car he wants to put it in.

Just tell him you don't know, which is true. He bought it and should pay for it. Buyer be ware or at least find out if the item is what you need/want.

Sorry to sound harsh.

sell it to him but explain he will need to change the control module & maybe other items for the buttons to work & he will need access to vcds

Guys I know you are just doing the old help the member thing but honestly you are advising in a bad way, let me explain,

The Superb II is still based around a Passat B6 mechanically, ok the bodies are different but underneath it's the same car, the B6 when it was launched in 2005 was a fresh pie to the VAG where most if not all the B5.5 had been dispensed with with a whole new car, this included the electrics and at the time the B6 was bleeding edge electronically and sadly problematically as well, the Octy II was a car built around B5.5 tech and earlier so I see nothing but hassle on the horizon for both seller and buyer regardless of what has been said by either party.

Supurbia,

The Superb II is indeed based on the same platform as the Passat B6 (the PQ46 platform), but this itself is actually an enlarged version of the PQ35 / A5 platform that the Octavia II and Golf Mk5 are based on. As such both the Octavia II and the Superb II use CANBUS for the car electronics.

I can't confirm whether or not the wheel will work but as said above the minimum that will be required if indeed it can be made to work is the correct control module and ability to code it. Ultimately it's the buyers problem, why bid on something when you don't know if it's what you need?

Fair enough he's bid on it but he's asked whether it will fit or not, obviously it will fit the spline but the electronics side of it it will be a nightmare, at one stage the B6 ign lock if the key stopped working due to microswitch failure resulted in a £1000 fix that mean't a new coloumn as well,

Chassis wise you are correct but the electrics side of the two cars are 4 year apart,

I guess it shows where we're at as a race now, mug it on and let it be someone elses problem rather than be upfront and say yay or nay or at least say I don't know it's up to you to take a chance, at least then nobody cons anybody, that's not who I am and I don't like where things are heading tbh, open season world ends up in no trust, nice world eh.

Okay thanks for the help guys I will let him know about the issues. Looks like I am listing it for a 3rd time...

Supurbia, I don't follow what you are saying. According to the first post, the winning bidder has asked if it fits after winning the auction. I actually think the winning bidder is about to mess the seller around by the sound of things.

If the auction was in progress it would be a perfectly valid question and based on the answer a choice could be made whether to bid or not.

As an aside, the state of the human race and where things are possibly heading truly depresses me, people taking personal responsibility and actually caring about others would be a good start. It wasn't my intent to come across as overly harsh, but as I've said I think it is the seller that might be about to be messed around here.

I wouldn't go to those lengths to be honest, you're putting yourself to more hassle. He's bid and won on the item - it's the bidder's responsibility. It's therefore a case of him keeping his side of the contract to purchase the item.

You can simply say you're not sure about compatibility. Say that and nothing more.

I'm in the 'Buyer beware' camp here as well.. if it was advertised as a Skoda Superb Mk2 MF Wheel then he knew exactly what he was bidding on.
If it doesn't fit his planned application, that's his fault.. simply say you've no idea as it's come from your Superb as described. Job Done.

I have messaged him telling him I don't know and that he should have checked before bidding/winning the auction!

Not only did I put no overseas bids UK only on the advert I also specifically said to make sure it fits your car before bidding!

This is the second time I have listed it, the first was a non paying bidder and the second this guy who not only won the auction before asking if it fits he is also from Portugal!

Drives me nuts...

I agree with myself, he he (no emnicons).

It was to say that if he says he doesn't know then he's playing the good guy but if he says yes then he's mugging the bloke off as there is little chance it will donor into the Octy without major programming and part fitting but others were saying , gwon it's his fault for not knowing, he bought it tough luck in a way,

The seller has since clarified and has no intention of seeing anyone off deliberately which makes him upstanding in my book,

As far as getting upset, I wasn't in particular with anyone but have had a bit of an oh f'it forum day with the vented seats that are only broken when his backside sits on it so there may well have been some overspill from that in my wordings.

We have ALL had those days.

You should have looked at where the bid was coming from and blocked it, you say your ad said no overseas buyers so no overseas buyers is what you meant.

Just report him to E-bay if he doesn't pay, they have a compensation / insurance scheme that should pay you and sorts out these sorts of idiots.

That's the other problem I have had bidders listing themselves as from the UK but then asking if I will send it to other countries.
