Problems closing boot

Featured Replies

Hi

Is there a way to adjust the boot door of a FL Yeti? Even though the boot is empty (no obstacles) I find myself having to slam the door in order for it to be properly closed.

This has been mentioned many times before - it's thought to be just the air pressure that is causing the resistance (due to the car being so well sealed).

Opening a window or other door makes a big difference apparently.

My Yeti was in the bodyshop for repairs after being hit by a tractor.  The tailgate shuts now shuts far more easily than it did before.  I'm not suggesting you find the nearest stray tractor -  just saying that adjustment must be possible.

It's better like that IMHO

You can adjust the striker plate to make it easier, but you will probably find the door will rattle then--mine needs a good shove to close it as well.

As stated you can open a door or window to make it easier, but that's beyond a faff

Exactly, hence the "apparently" in my earlier post.  Just live with it and give it the required force to close, and I would't meddle with any of the fittings for fear of causing a worse issue.

You can adjust it and not have a rattle.

But you need to get it spot on.

The striker plate is adjustible, but there are also two little bumpstops, one on each side part way down the door.

The trick is to get it closing nicely without having to whang it shut hard.  But at the same time have it pressing firmly on the bump stops so it doesn't rattle.

I did my Mum's Greenline, which took some time but now it's perfect.

On my second Yeti and both have had this "issue" (my mum's has it as well).

Just got used to giving it that slightly firmer push as I close it.

I would be looking at the little bump stops that BossFox mentioned - they are designed to be adjustable for precisely this eventuality.  For a quick test, they both have a rubber boot on them - pull one/both off and try then.

Just got used to giving it that slightly firmer push as I close it.

I think the emphasis should be on PUSH not slam. I noticed this as soon as I got my FL Yeti but have now got used to it and rarely have a problem now.

Just been to Dealer with mine, had an annoying rattle on and off for months. They had a go once before and seemed to last a while.

All ok on the journey home ;)

I'm with Fred, I just push mine shut, slamming is for movies!

Thanks to all for the tips… and warnings!

I'll have al look at the bump stops mentioned by BossFox.

TIBET III developed an intermittent rattle from the rear which I eventually decided must be the tailgate.

Slight tweaking of the bump stops cured the rattle and the tailgate still shuts as easily (ie not so easily...!) as before. I'd adjust with caution and be prepared for rattles if you back the bump stops off too far.

I think I've related on this forum before how I once watched a guy load his surfboard in to his BMW touring and slam the tailgate - leaving the tail of the board sticking out of a shattered rear window.

My how we all laughed (except for the people coming off the beach barefoot).

It really is just a question of having a door or window open when you close the boot, as mentioned above.  Just air pressure, as it was with the original Beetle.  Try it, and you'll find that it will close securely from a drop of just a few centimetres.  With windows and doors closed you can drop it from a metre and it won't shut properly!

And as you already know (you do know don't you?) you can control the windows from the remote key fob.

Keep the unlock button pressed, and the windows go down, either all the way if you keep pressing, or they stop when you let go. Then keep pressing the lock button, and they go back up again and, hey presto, the car locks too!

Clever eh?

And for those that have KESSY, I found out this evening, that if you hold a digit to the door handle to lock the door and keep it there, that motors the windows up as well.

Note to self: tomorrow, I'll remember to do part II of the test and see if the windows open when unlocking the door

aerofurb just be sure no body is about to catch your code of kessy when you do it

Oh, yeah, I forgot that utilising KESSY means instant Yeti theft (unlike having heritage keys snatched out of your hand)....

Opening test done - and it doesn't do it, hold onto the handle as long as you like and nothing happens other than the door unlocking. Not an issue as never used the facility when I had a mere clef.
