DTUK power box stage 1 or 2 for a 150ps?

Featured Replies

Looking into getting a DTUK power box for my 150ps elegance - car is only 3-4 months old.

Just wondering whether the extra cost is worth while...??

Stage 1: 190 ps & 295 lbs/ft torque - £339.00

Stage 2: 200 ps & 310 lbs/ft torque - £389.00 (+£50)

Any experiences/thoughts of these very welcome.... And before this turns into a remap vs power box discussion, I've got no interest in getting it remapped as I don't intend keeping it beyond 3 yrs.....a TDi 4x4 estate is next for me.

Anyone know what the OEM clutch can cope with??

Many thanks,

Steve.

if you don't plan to keep the car a long time, I'd suggest going for the lower power and more clutch friendly option.

I would transfer the box into the new car - if possible.

Are they the RRP prices or the discounted prices? You get a nice discount for being a member on here.

I went for more power with mine (184 engine).

For 50 quid you might as well go the whole hog, Andrew @ DTUK will generally be as helpful as possible regards any previous customer/equipement/new maps, give him a call and talk before you buy, he's a blunt northerner but, very honest and knowledgable.

What defines stage 1 vs. stage 2 in this instance. My understanding from Google is that stage 2 means something else is required in addition to plugging in the box, but what is the something else?

Had a look at the website and the lesser of the two is messing with the fuel injection pressure sensor, whilst the higher output box fiddles the boost pressure sensor as well. I wonder whether there's a bigger difference than the headline figures suggest - some power/torque curves would be interesting.

I have got stage 2 trevor on my 150PS. The difference is drastical (using 1+2 which I found best so far), but I still havent taken it to the dyno to see real figures, but I dont believe it matters much since you feel the differences behind the wheel.

Indeed, the CRD2 only has a fuel rail feed, the CRDT has both fuel and boost feeds.

The 2 feed box is the better box as its naturally best to control boost as well as fueling to get the best kind of map and power output but even with a CRD2 you'd notice a massive difference in power.

In fact i dont doubt that increasing the fuel pressure may give rise to the ECU requesting more boost to compensate; id imagine thats how it gains an additional 40ps over stock, the newer box actively controlling boost instead.

I think that trevor after a stiffer suspension setup should be a great combo.

Yes, and theres certainly no messing, or fiddling involved, its a very professional solution imho...

Some of you knew Id 'chip' in sooner or later when I woke up.........

As stated, the stage 2 controls boost as well as fuelling, so its a more unified and comprehensive approach...

By the way, now its stopped freezing, im back on program 1+1....

Thanks for the input folks - my mind is made up on the CRDT (stage 2) box.

Steve.

I think you'll find both connectors are both accessed from above the engine making the whole install far easier than the FSR+ I fitted at the weekend for a fellow Briskodian on a TSI vRS and being quite new the connectors are still soft and flexible, older ones can crack quite easily.  The soft touch keys make changing maps far easier than the older jumpers and pins arrangement.

Why is that?

Why is that?

1+1 gives more low down torque, so is better on less slippery roads... 3+1 is higher revs input, so better on slippery stuff/ low traction circumstances....

I had a stage 2 box on my mk2 vrs tdi and it certainly makes a good difference, I sort of regret taking it off but I think i will be changing cars soon so the box is going.
