drone

Featured Replies

only issue i have with my car is a drone type of noise at around 20 -30 mph , sounds like the rear, pretty sure its not wheel bearings has it goes away , i think its tyre related , anyone else had this , gonna change tyres anyway whats your recommendations , fancy goodyear assy 2 , had them on my golf seemed pretty good

Sawtoothing , very common do a search for tyres less likely to do it

Can't say I noticed it when I owned it - No signs of sawtoothing in 60k on any of the tyres I had.  Maybe that one Conti thats left is running a bit low?

I would stick with the PS3's!  That one on the back is nearly new!

Sawtoothing. Lots on here about it.

Get some decent tyres (I put Goodyear EfficientGrip on mine and would do so again) and a proper alignment check done.

Make sure it's a full Hunter type set up and not a quick Kwik Fit job.

Yes^^^^

The specs for rear suspension settings were changed because of this.  If you go to a decent place the alignment rig will be online and use the later settings.

Once the tyres have sawtoothing, you usually need to swop wheels end to end. It tends to stay if you leave the wheel as they are.

This car has the modified alignment settings. As I said, I did 60k in it with no issues

thanks everyone for the advice , have booked in for goodyear assy 2 f1 all round , jrw appreciate what your saying but there is something strangly good about a tyre change on a new car it sort of completes it lol , just dont tell my wife , loving the car , took it to bangor yesterday and back and was faultless , gave a few cars a shock i reckon with my cars performance

Yup, I can echo this.  I'd bet my cars value it's that :D  I haven't had a hunter's alignment, just a regular full wheel alignment and mine is ENTIRELY cured, except for the normal tyre noise from the cheap Maxxis that's on it.

+1 to all this.

allegedly if the tyres have large tread blocks it can make them more prone to sawtoothing. I've erad that online but have never found anything else to support it.

I'd avoid MAxxis MAZ1 on the rear, decent tyres for the money but they don't agree with the rear of the car.

They're what I have, and they've sawtoothed like mad.  I don't want to waste them nor the money, but I honestly can't wait until they're due to be replaced...

I was the same. Had Maxxis allround. Swapped them to the front where the drone was less but the drive was nasty and switched to Goodyear Efficient grip after a while.

When I sold the car the swapped rears were starting to go as well.

Shame, the Maxxis were loud but otherwise very good tyres for the price.

new tyres booked in for sat morning , £400 all in fitted at my house , bargain

Had 3 passengers in my car last night.  Total weight must have been a good 45-50st and the drone instantly came back.  Disappeared the second they got out haha.

the difference is unbelievable , 3 tyres where worn and one ok , but the difference is brilliant , so quiet drone gone completely

Did you put the unworn Michelin onto the spare wheel?
