The Monte is now my second car that came without a spare wheel and I have to say this really ****es me off .... and so I plan on buying a spare wheel.

 

I am right in understanding that a 14 inch rim will not fit on the Monte but pretty much any other (bigger) size space saver or wheel will fit?

 

Any differences between VAG rims as long as I buy the right bolt spacing?

14 inch wont fit, no. It wont go over the brakes.

The standard spare wheel is a 15 inch steel. 195,55 r15 tyre.

Unfortunately not I'm afraid, it has my winter tyre on so that will be coming off when I sell it. The alloy (with a tyre) fits perfectly in the boot. I'm not available all Sunday as I'm down Wrexham but Saturday morning I could meet you on your journey.

As much as it would be nice to have a Trinity as a spare, I can pick up a brand new steel wheel and tyre for £60 (and I'm sure a second hand one for half that) and so spending £100 on a wheel and an extra £75 on having a tyre fitted is too much for me.

All I did was go to the local breakers got a 16" wheel and all the jacking kit for £15 then bought the right size tyres for £40

Only the Vrs comes with one as standard iirc.

It's definitely cheaper to get a full size steel wheel with tyre. Your Monte has room for the full size unit or at least a 15" 195/55  with rim. No need to get a space saver, and of course a space saver restricts your speed and handling/roadholding too if you have to fit it.

I had the same issue when i had my monte, ended up buying the spare wheel and jack kit myself, as i dont think an inflater kit is the best thing to have as an only option, but i didnt realise when i traded in the monte for a vrs that it came with one already, so got a spare one now lol
