Remap ? Yay or nay ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all !

I have come to the conclusion that my poor little 90bhp 1.9tdi engine is due or some sort of power increase .

I have been quoted from various garages from around 270 plus a software update.

Is this good ?

He said that there will be a 30 % increase in powers and torque ?

Any good feedback or even horror stories from remaps on Octavias ?

You can probably reckon on about 20bhp more from just a generic remap. I'm not sure why they felt the need to say "plus a s/w update" though, because a remap is a s/w update.

Well he said to me that the older mk1 Octavias don't have the same software as the new ones .. He said something about installing flash onto it ?

Terraclean is another option, would restore most of your lost horses and economy without increasing insurance. Not as big a gain as a remap but it would be noticeable. Probably cost you about a 100 nicer. Remaps are worth it though, get a quote off your insurers first though, they may not even insure the mod.

Ah right; That's true but he's no more psychic than I am so he doesn't know that the software isn't up to date. When's the last Skoda or VAG specialist stamp in the service book? That's what tells you when the last s/w update should have been.

I actually haven't looked at the service history since I bought the car but it was serviced in the garage it was bought from all its life ! I'll have a gander when I've a chance ..

All this aside , is that price reasonable for the work he's doing ?

Your quote for me was double of that i was quoted eslewhere for a standard vehicle...

Did you go to a modified specialists for a quote on a standard car then? Worth a shot but not surprised they were more expensive. In my case my cars modified and they took 100 off my best specialist quote with a low excess and a good package.

They do not just specialise in modified cars.... from standard to highly modified.

Check out blacksmoke remaps, they do a stage one "clutch saver" map, I have one one my passat 130 tdi, now sits at 165, you have to load the map on the ecu yourself, but it's easy, all instructions on their website... Cost £65 including the lead, (lead from ebay) pulls like a train! Best £65 I've spent
