Octavia 2.0 TDI Sport

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone. I ordered an Octavia Sport 2.0 TDI last month and have to wait until December before it arrives :( . So I thought while I wait I would see if anyone has one of these yet and if so what they think so far.

December seems so long away.....

I have the Elegance with the same wheel/suspension set up as the sport and I quite like it myself. I looked at the sport, but I had to add on all the stuff I wanted as extras that came std on the Elegance so changed the order and sacrificed the bodykit which I can live without personally. The ride is a bit on the hard side but I moved from a Fabia vRS so it's not too dissimilar to that, but it does not wallow as much as the std setup, and the Pegasus alloys look nicer and fill the wheel arches better than the alloys that come on the Elegance and L&K.

I tend to get around 38-44 mpg on my way to work and averaged over 50 when I went to Wales the day after picking the car up (I live in Essex).

I went for the Audience upgrade but the Stream system that comes normally is perfectly good, although both have rubbish AM when driving through London.

Interesting all this stuff about add-ons. Re: my 2.0FSI I thought the different spec' between the Ambience and Elegance was great for the extra price, but couldn't see the point of the L&K [horses for courses I guess].

I'm the other way round. The only bits from the Elegance I would have liked were the bigger wheels, leather steering wheel and jumbo armrest thing. But not worth the extra grand imho, so I settled for the Ambiente.

I think it depends on the particular deal you're getting - not the brochure price. My dealer got me my Elegance for about

Picked up my 2.0TDi just over a week ago. Previous car was an 03reg Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDi Sport 130,which went like stink but did crash jarringly over any road imperfections.

The new Octavia was the garage show room car which was Elegance, Sahara Biege Metallic +full leather,+front park sensors, + 17" Alloys, but NOT the sports suspension.

So far I'm really pleased with it. Its very comfy, plenty of power, quiet and so far nothings fallen off !

The thing that strikes me is the lower gearing compared to the Ibiza 1.9. That used to show around 1800rpm @70mph, and just over 2000rpm at 80mph. Now the Otavia is around 2250 at 70mph. At first I was disappointed but now realise this gives a huge spread of power in 6th, on single carriage A and B grade roads, where the Seat would need to shift between 5th and 6th. I have yet to measure the ecomomy of the Skoda, and its needs to run in ( less than 200 miles so far ).

Can anyone tell me why the calibration of the speedo, goes from 80 to 100 with no reading of 90mph ???

I wondered about the 80-100 thing myself. I don't think anyone has come up with an answer yet.

I'm due to pick up my Elegance at the end of the month. I've been in the Sport and maybe i'm getting old but I found the ride a bit harsh although the handling was a bit better. The Elegance still has pretty good handling though and you get a lot more in the way of creature comforts in the Elegance if you are prepared to do without the Sport look. I specced up my Elegance to L&K spec effectively minus the leather electric seats and memory mirrors and saved about

The 80-100 thing is the same as the Fabia vRS. Its so they can get the higher end speedo in without making the size of the numbers smaller.

While we are talking about Spec you might be able to answer a few questions I have. I am looking at the Octy 2 for my next car. As I mentioned in the other day it will also be my work car (TAXI). Now I really like the looks of the vRS but need the car to be diesel. Is the sport body kit the same as the vRS? Do any of you think the 170 tdi will ever arrive and will that be the vRS body kit?

At this point some of you probably think I'm mad wanting 170 bhp car for a taxi but when you do 80,000-100,000 miles a year you want something thats fun to drive. If you want mad, there is already a Seat Leon cupra R 225 taxi in our town!! :D:D

Any other advice would be great.

Ben.

mmmm...I hope that is not right. I have ordered the sport with rear parking sensors. I hope this does not mean that my dealer has got it wrong and will end up delaying the car even longer :(

The options i added were: Rear Parking Sensors' date=' Curtain Airbags, Active Headrest, Dual-Zone Climatronic a/c and Multi-Function Steering wheel. Does anyone else have any information as to whether these options are ok with the sport. Think I will have to call the dealer tomorrow.

When I ordered the car had only just been launched (April) and they only had a fax with all the info on. Parking sensors were not factory option at the time as the bodykit goes over where they are fitted on the elegance (the bodykit fits over the normal bumper, not replaces it). This may have changed since then.

The rest are options as far as I know.

The sport bodykit is different to the vRS bodykit as the bodykit fits over the existing bumpers and is of a different design to the vRS bumpers (you can see the Sport bumpers on the accesories part of the Skoda website). The 140 is fast enough so as not to worry too much with bothering with a derv VRS if you can't wait. From what I have read on other forums and in some magazines about the 170 in other models it is not as good overall as the 140 as it is less smooth.

if it ever does turn up it will more than likely be in the vRS spec if only because VW are putting it in the Golf in GTI trim.

Regarding specs - I think it comes down to personal preference. The sport for me came with enough toys (have a rather basic Seat Leon at the moment - so a big improvement) but the sport looks swung it for me. I also got a
