Oil temp gauge - service regime.

Featured Replies

Morning all!

My vRS had its first service yesterday. As per usual the car was set to variable servicing from the factory so I've made do without the oil temp display for the past 12mnths. When I took it in I asked them to swap the car over to fixed servicing as I prefer that and also when the car is on a fixed regime the oil temp display should work.... Therein lies the problem. Drove home from the dealer yesterday and still no oil temp registering on the dash (yes I left it long enough to warm up lol).

So I am assuming that the dealer didn't actually set the car correctly as fixed serving.

Is there a way to check on the maxi-dot etc what regime is active?

Tom

on the right stick there is an up and down button on the end (side of stick to turn on wiper) it can be turned on from there under settings

yes the dealer didn't do it right... my first service they set it to variable, and I lost the oil temp, I just called back in the next day, took 'em a minute to bring it back for me (by setting it back to fixed)

Cheers I've been through all the maxi-dot settings but can't find what I'm after. Under service info it will tell you how many miles reminding to the next service but not if it's variable or fixed. I was wondering if anyone new of a secret menu lol! I know it can be changed via VCDS.

What I'm really after is someone to confirm for me who's had it changed from variable to fixed by the dealer that their oil temp gauge then started working?

I'll be ringing them up later but wanted some useful info off here before I called. :-)

Cheers Dave that's confirmed my suspicion thanks!

Back to the dealer it goes.....

Well the plot thickens. I phoned up the dealer yesterday and they swore blind that the car had been changed to fixed servicing, I insisted on popping back in today so they could check for me.

The servicing desk guy still is convinced the switch form variable to fixed was done so calls out the tech to speak with me. Both then say that the oil temp gauge doesn't work when the car is set to fixed servicing! They reckon it only works on variable....

They then get slightly flustered when I explain that it didn't work when the car was on variable either before they allegedly swapped it over! Apparently nothing can be done so I am stuck with a useless none functioning gauge....

When I then suggested they might like to investigate my "faulty" gauge with a warranty claim the tech guy suddenly volunteers to plug the car in to their laptop to see what can be done.

Surprise surprise 10min later my car is returned with the oil temp gauge fully operational.... :-)
