Harmonic balancer pulley diesel

Featured Replies

Hi folks, has anybody ever had one of these fail before? I lost mine on the motorway earlier along with the drivebelt, the outer ribbed part has completely seperates from the inner aluminium part. I've never seen one fail like that before.

Possibly this may help see attached photographs it's difficult to see . the pulley that is polished is actually quite badly worn this was caused by the plastic belt cover caching which seemed to last  better than the aluminium . The other picture is of a good pully. Could something have jammed and slowly rubbed it away I saw a similar thing with a copper brake pipe tied up with a tie rap the nylon was perfect the copper pipe had rubbed awaypm me if you want one  clive

This one I have has no signs of it rubbing on the belt cover, I think it was caused by the bonding glue breaking down...

Just for info they are over £120 from skoda, but you can get them from a local motor factor as well, gates automaster do one as a pattern part which is circa £60

Seen plenty fail like that before.

Yes mate changed plenty, you are lucky it didn't take the timing belt with it, I have seen one wear away the oil pump pulley until it jammed bits under the cam belt..
