Loudspeaker change?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I suppose someone here has changed the front (and/or rear) door loudspeakers.

I just bought a used 2010 Yeti (already loving the 4x4, my first...) and its loudspeakers aren't that good so I thought I could change them to something better.

Some questions came to my mind

- Where could I find an exploded picture of the front door? (for the screws and such)

- I have the Swing radio, do I have 2-way separate speaker set? I can't hear anything from the top of the door...

- 6,5" set fits (?), but is there an adapter plate required and if so, what kind? Just a riser or something else?

- Anyone got wiring scheme for the speaker outputs from radio?

- What's the best way to route new cables to the door through the rubber between body and door?

- Anything else I should think of?

Installation of loudspeakers themselves is not new to me, just that I have never done that in Skoda/VAG vehicle.

Thanks!

This is what I've found.

That's an excellent diagram of the door, but I suspect what the OP was looking for was the fastening points, screws etc for the internal door trim rather than the door itself so that he could work out how to remove it to fit the new speakers.

Exactly.

But those images can still be helpful.

Couldn't find any information from manual, does the Swing -system have RCA-output(s)?

Here's the Swing rear connection diagram

They must fit lower quality speakers to non-UK spec cars then as someone from Israel was also asking about fitting/changing speakers on the "other" Yeti forum recently.

The UK spec Yeti's come with really excellent quality speakers fitted from the factory as standard.

137699: Do you have the soundsystem?

Mine has Swing radio and the speakers sound like they were in a box filled with dirt...

But then again, I have built many cars with proper soundsystems in my younger days :).

I'm not trying to achieve anything like that anymore, but I'd like at least some bass and a bit clearer sound.

I also have a 12" subwoofer waiting on the shelf and 6ch amplifier, but they are only going in if the speaker change doesn't work out well enough.

I suspect that the same speakers go into every car and model, and that the only difference is the additional speakers in that system.

In the UK the Swing radio is (was?) only fitted to Yetis below SE spec so it's possible that the matching speakers are lower quality.

My SE has the Bolero radio with standard sound system and it suits me, mind you I only listen to TalkSport. :p

I'll take some photos of the loudspeakers, but even without seeing them I'm pretty sure they are not worth even the cellphone photos... ;)

Yes I have an Elegance with the optional 12 speaker sound-system with the Amundsen+.

However I also auditioned an Yeti SE with the Bolero & standard 8 speakers (dealer test car before ordering), and have had a Yeti S with Swing & standard 8 speakers as a loan car while mine was in for a service.

On both the SE and the S the difference between the 8 speaker system & the 12 speaker system on mine is fairly minimal

And on all systems, once the bass/treble are set correctly, the sound is actually very good. So good in fact that I don't recommend the extra £390 or whatever they're charging these days for the 12 speaker system. Yes it's good, but so is the standard setup. And the difference does not justify the cost.

Looking on the parts website there appears to be only one part number for the speakers in each of the doors, so they do not put different speakers in for different models!

Our other car is a 2012 Superb which has Soundsystem and Amundsen+. It sounds very nice.

So there are differences be loudspeakers :).

Got the speakers finally changed :).

It didn't go quite as planned, but not far from it either. A minor setback was the height of the original riser/speaker.

I installed the tweeter with hotglue, which has held the tiny speaker before and hopefully now too.

That was the easy part.

Then what to do with the woofer? The 6.5" woofer isn't a direct fit and I didn't have a riser tall enough... So I cut the old woofer's cone out, saw the woofer's frame off, epoxied the new riser on the old one and installed the new woofer to the epoxied riser. Job done and works flawlessly :).

Sorry for not taking too many photos :/.

Might do the rear doors too.
