I need more power - 250BHP would be nice

Featured Replies

Following my defeat at th ehands of a standard WRX today, I was wondering what the next steps are to get a bit more power from the Octavia?

250 BHP would be nice.

I assume adding an exhaust and carbonio wont make any difference until another remap is done?

I'm thinking along the lines of exhaust, carbonio and FMIC?

New cams worth considering?

Okay let's see...

Full on exhaust system, free flow

K&N cone filter with a fat pipe

FMIC

What power you currently running? And what mods are done?

The "K&N cone and fat pipe" option won't help me at all. I'm going for a Carbonio, I think.

Currently running 220bhp from a Jabba remap only.

those mods wouldnt Necessarily give you more BHP definatly not 30bhp...however what they will do is improve the torque...and make the car feel as if it picks up quicker and sustains accleration for longer...this is because A: cooler air is being fed into the engine for longer from the CAI and FMIC.... and B: the fumes will excape quicker due to the exhaust.... however this may give the edge over say another 220bhp octy...but i dont think you will beat that scooby....

So then, Joel.

What should I be looking at ?

Stuart has pretty much everything listed and has approx 250bhp.

FMIC does give cooler inlet temps but a remap will allow you to take advantage of this and so you can run more boost, which will give you more power.

The dp/cat will give you more torque than power.

Carbonio is only worth it IMO if you want the sound and looks, otherwise a panel filter, cold air feed and smoothed airbox is the better option. This combined with a turbo back exhaust, FMIC and 4 bar FPR along with a suitable remap will give you a decent power increase, however it's not gonna compare bhp/

i can pop over if you like soon so you can drive a similar car with re-map/turbo back exhaust/fmic/CAI/TIP/bot controller etc.

you may not notice much of a difference and not want to bother :)

all my work was done with the future of a bigger turbo in mnd so not all wasted :P

Put the car on a diet :D

Goochie

My Power mods are as follows

Blue flame exhaust with 100 cell sports cat

Bailey DV

Jabba Custom map

Boost controller

Allard front mount

New plugs & Air filter element.

Gave me 250 horsies with a brilliant spread & loads of torque

PM me your e-mail address & I will send you the plot from the Rolling Road

Edited to add, the Wrexxie was 4wd ;);)

Goochie I know it might not make you feel better but I am sure that from 30 mph onwards a standard WRX wouldnt pull on you, it gets the power down better hence it llooks like it's pulling away, by the time your at 20 mph it's at 30 and so on....Take it's 4WD Megastarts out of the equation and I think it would be very similar as you would both be accelerating at similar speeds, 20 30 40...

Hope you understand what I am trying to say.

hopefully mine will be somewhere around there power wise ai have pretty much the same mods:rubchin:

Has a bigger turbo though (I believe) - so the Octy's smaller turbo will spool up quicker, but once the WRX gets "on song" it'll pull away...probably looking more towards the top-end than 40 though...

Yep this is definitely true as the turbo comes in around 3k rpm. I believe the WRX also has shorter gearing too ... the old UK turbo used to do 63mph in 2nd (just!) :D

Ahem.... comments on the video/WRX race should be in the other thread ;)

out of interest to try and help what is the weight of an Octavia

vRS 1.8T

4x4 1.8T

estate 1.8T

Octavia vRS = 1,375kgs

Octavia 1.8T Estate = 1,390kgs

Octavia 4x4 = 1,500kgs

Maybe not what you want to hear, but have you considered starting with a car that comes with a bigger turbo, a strong gearbox and puts at least some drive to the rear wheels?

You're at the value/low hassle/quiet/nice power band/comfortable stage at present with +50% on standard. Much beyond here and you'll end up with a car that is difficult to sell, and the money you put in for upgrades and maintenance may have been better put towards a car that would do what you want out the box or with easy mods?

No offence ;)

Phil.... just short of 240 bhp myself....you know where i live.....can possibly get hold of 100cel downpipe for you made in Thame:rolleyes: and then put my old pipes on ;)

Phil
