anyone know much about Subaru legacy?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Have been offered a 54 plate legacy at a very good price from a mate and would mean replacing the missus' 05 fabia vrs.

Anyone got much knowledge of common issues and stuff to look out for?

It is a 2.5 auto on 85k miles, top spec (sen) and a few advisories on mot re bush detoriation.

Know that will take a hit on fuel costs, but having a big 4wd car will be a bonus for us and has lots of toys on board too.

Any thoughts??

Cheers

Andy.

Fairly reliable but not that comfy..and the stereo is pretty pants.

I ran one briefly when I worked at Subaru. The fabia is obviously a different car entirely but the legacy isn't "fun"

The Spec B on the other hand.. That's better!

Reliable and thirsty, friends have had them and really liked them - They both had the 3 litre engine.

I fancied a GTB a few years ago but bought a Saab 9000 Aero instead which felt faster but it was pretty woeful in the corners.

I had a 3.0R for 8 yrs and had no problems. My memory of the 2.5 auto was a poor, 4 speed, box spoiling an otherwise decent car. It made the car generally more noisy and unresponsive, the manual was a lot better. At the time I thought the legacy compared well with 3 series, A4 Ect. It is a useful size, good driving position, steering, chassis balance, no creaks or rattles as well as the permanent 4x4. This was mine just before being px,ed.

Dad's pal had one for a few years. Little bother but when it did go wrong parts were very expensive. Moved it on in the end when a small hole in the exhaust meant a £1200 bill for a new system because the hole was inaccessible to weld.

Have a pal that swears by Subaru's, he's had an outback and now a Forrester 3.0. Petrol cost doesn't bother him and his have been fairly bombproof.

As above, reliable but thirsty.
