My new 2011 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all

Yesterday my wife and I collected our new 61 plate 1.8tsi Octavia with 14k on the clock  :D . First impressions are very good indeed, plenty of space for us and our 2 daughters, plenty of grunt and good fuel economy (according to the trip computer, not done an empty to empty calculation yet). I took my eldest swimming today and let her sit up front and it is fair to say that she approves  . We bought the car from Hartwell in Grimsby and got a cracking deal on it. The list price was close to 10k but they had a 3 option offer on, one of which was a minimum part exchange of £1500 on our old car. Deal done with a 3 year extended warranty and a years tax. All in all a good buying experience but it remains to be seen what the aftersales is like if we did need to use our warranty.

Pictures will follow eventually as I am not yet a supporter (I will be soon  ;) ) it seems that I can have a maximum picture size of 1KB.

The 1.8 is not that common, so you've done well. They're a bit if a stealth motor and are very nice to drive. I wanted one in 2012, but Skoda had stopped building them by then so there won't be too many ones with fewer miles on the clock than yours.

Thanks littleade. Seems like a very solid motor, we also looked at a 2 litre ecoboost mondeo that was cheaper but the part ex offer made the final decision quite easy. Looks like we got one of the last of the breed.

A 3 year warranty and a bigger boot than the mondy works in its favour too. I had the 1.4 which didn't have enough performance (for me) so I had to make do with a vRS instead LOL. It'll average slightly less to the gallon than the 1.4, but the trade off is worth it IMO. Enjoy...

Making do with a vRS  :D . Sadly the vRS was out of our price range this time. We did enjoy the mondy with its Powershift box but the Octy should be cheaper to run. Also our Octy should still be worth a fair bit in 3-4 years time, likely to be a good amount more than the mondy. Averaged nearly 45mpg on the way home from Grimsby on a mix of A roads and Lincoln traffic. Plenty of miles for us to do in this car I think
