Hi

Featured Replies

Let me introduce myself.

My name is David and I'm in the West Midlands.

I'm here rather fraudulently as I don't yet own a Skoda; close but not yet. I'm currently anguishing about what sort of new Roomter to buy, diesel or petrol.

My use will be almost wholly within the locality, mainly sub-urban with rare motorway journeys. I have run diesels for many years and enjoy the low down oomph, but my wife is fed up with having our whereabouts announced by a diesel rattle. Petrol beckons. Decisions, decisions! All I really need is a car to look after and see me to the end of my driving career. Reliability is the name of the game.

I had rather fancied an automatic, but I hear horror stories about the 7 gear variety as used on the Roomster, and have been put off. Shame really.

Thanks for reading this.

Welcome,I'd go for a 1.6 petrol [if you can track one down] but a later model with the ESP tracking control onboard,it tames the wiggle effect. You're in a pickle though....because the 1.9 diesel is equally as lively, though not the quietest beast to come crashing through the urban undergrowth....lol.Personaly I don't think I could put up with the extra noise of a diesel engine in a Roomster body shell without doing a little extra DIY soundproofing.

Welcome to the forum Dave. There's quite a few who don't own a Skoda...or at least don't own up that they do so don't worry! You will get more replies if you post your questions in the Roomster section itself though in general if you are only doing short urban trips a modern diesel is probably not the best option due to them having a dpf which isn't really suited to just doing short journeys. I don't know anything about the roomster so can't help further other than to suggest you get a short list and a decent test drive in each one to see if they are what you are after. I did have a seat ibiza hire car with a 3 cylinder 1.2 petrol in it and it was quite rough though not sure if its the same engine they put in the roomster. The 4 cylinder 1.2 is very smooth and a willing engine and mates well to the dsg by all accounts though if you do get a dsg its worth considering an extended warranty which if buying new you need to add to the order before you take delivery. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies both, very helpful. Point taken about the extended warranty and the er... vocalness (?) of the diesel. Very useful.

I'll trog over to the Roomster forum and ask the questions again later this afternoon and see what happens.

Thanks again.
