wouldn't boost over 5psi?

Featured Replies

on the way home yesterday the Octy wouldnt boost over 5psi, no warning lights on. I pulled over and the car just stalled. Had a quick look under the bonnet and everything looked ok. Started her up and she was fine.

Any ideas what would have caused this?

Take a look at:

While the thread relates to an initial problem with a remapped vehicle the problem is fairly common with standard 1.8T's too.

happened once to mine mark...i put it down to bad petrol but....ithink it just of of those things ...

Hope this information helps, it's come from Michael who does the mapping.

This is a common problem with VVT 150 & 180 bhp engines 30% of cars over

30,000 miles coming in for re - maps will have the fault code logged boost

pressure loss between turbo & throttle when in reality there is no leak,

once triggered the turbo will run actuator pressure until you turn the

ignition off then on again. To alleviate the problem remove the boost pipe

to the throttle body, push the throttle flap open & wipe round with a cloth,

remove any accumulated sludge wetting the cloth with petrol or carb cleaner,

do not use tissue as it can break up & get left in the inlet manifold. Re

fit the boost pipe then turn on the ignition, but do not start engine leave

for 2 - 3 minutes before starting the engine. As mentioned earlier, it's a

common problem on standard cars, but less noticeable as the boost difference

between the standard 0.6 bar & 0.35 actuator pressure.

MY car's coming up for 25k miles, could the above be the problem?
