few probs

Featured Replies

hi only got car lastnite,,iam 1st time skoda driver, car is 05,19 tdi Octavia classic, when having a test drive I noticed the abs light was on,lad said it passed mot a few days back with it on,so when I got back from test driver the abs was off,lad says it had just had new brakes fitted,so the way home about 6 miles into my drive abs came back on and so did traction control light seemed to drive ok,still any ideas on what can be up,,and more little thing I got 2 sets of keys but both never had key fobs is this right for this car, both lock car and start no probs

If ABS and ESR are both on, it could be an ABS sensor failure since both use the same wheel speed sensors, or it could be an alternator charge issue since those systems are the first ones shut down to save charge (yes before the stereo and the heater fan).

First steps in diagnosis.

If you have VCDS check fault codes.

If you have a voltmeter, check battery charge is in the range of 14.0 to 14.4v with the engine running.

just a little update both ABS and ESR are stopping off for a good 20miles and then back on,just been for a little run both are still off lol

Sounds like a dodgy ABS wheel sensor to me.

The Octavia Classic doesn't have remote central locking so the keys are right.

the lad I got it of says it just had new brakes, and his dad says had new ball joints or track ends on,,

They could have broken a sensor when they put the new brakes on or changed suspension components - it's easy to do. If you get the car scanned it'll tell you which sensor is reporting a fault.

Id say its also your speed sensor all lights should be off when you first turn the car on then after a short distance ans and traction lights will come on. Its a rather easy job to change.

both lights have been off all day, yesterday,,but back on now lol,,mate going to do that vcds next week so I find the crack then,,apart from that car drives spot on

Be aware that with the light on the ABS system is probably disabled, so allow for that when braking in the wet.
