Tts short shift

Featured Replies

Hi was looking for info from anyone with the tts short shifter fitted to a cr170.? What difference is felt is it a noticeable improvement and worthwhile mod.?

i've done it on both of my octavias - for the cost (thirty quid or so?) is a no-brainer.  if you want to feel what it will be like before you buy, go sit in a used TT-S on an audi dealers forecourt and have a go.  its like 20% reduction in throw - make the change much nicer whilst still being oem.

Cool sounds like a nice little touch to add to my octi... How hard is it to fit would it be easy with a driveway and a few tools.. I priced the part in audi dealer here it works out at 46€ would that be the cheapest id get it.? And correct part number. 8j0 711 046e.?

yes its easy to fit, from memory the airbox has to come off first but yes, you can do it on your drive with basic tools.  don't have a record of the pn sorry.

Rob,

have been meaning to do this to mine, do you have a guide to this? I know how much you like them :)

Cheers

ha ha.. no i don't, sorry.  On both the cars Alex @ AKS popped them on when the car was in for other work so i've not done one myself, but it looks to be pretty straightforward - just remove the old one and bolt the new one in its place  :)

I've done it on my PD140 too and it makes the change so much nicer, highly recommended cheap mod

Silly question but does that make the car any quicker with the gear changes or does it just feel better? Also would it fit the FL TSI vRS?

"Feel" is the same as before, you just have a shorter throw, so your hand doesn't need to move as far.

Both of my vRS's are / were FL TSi. :)

Presuming this is generic so would be doable on a 1.8?

I think its only possible on the 6 speed mq350 transmission.. Correct me if I'm wrong..

Well tts shifter ordered today.. Let's see how we get on.. Lol

I have a Neuspeed one on my Octy TDI, feels amazing, throw is so much shorter!

Got a link to these for a 2.0 CR170 vrs

The neuspeed one is like 40% reduction in throw it's alot the tts is supposed to be about a 20% decrease which for the price is grand 46€ from Western motors..

mate, I've done some more research.  We have the 6sp MQ250 box (I think it's a KWB designation).  It's the same as the 1.4tsi in a VW.
Here's some photos of an instal of a "5 speed" dieselgeek shifter (reduces L-R & F-R movement). nice kit but expensive.  The photos tell a general story though.

DIY version

I'm reasonably certain the correct number for our gearbox is 8J0 711 046D

They look like this (image won't embed)

Doubt you'll get it cheaper than this

Good work fella. :) Something to put on my possible to do list.

Phoned up the stealer and he said our (at least my) gearbox has the designation KVT. Does that help anyone?

Picked up mine today..

That looks wrong.. - it looks like the 5 speed unit

I think yours should look more like this.  Just pull your airbox off & you'll know if it's right or not.
