Replacement Boot Gas Struts

Featured Replies

Hi people, I have a bit of a dilemma. My boot has been falling rapidly and slamming very easily for a while. I bought some replacement gas struts off Ebay and I have just gone to fit them and they are 2cm shorter than the ones already on the car (I did all the background research for fitment before buying, short of measuring the ones in the actual boot).

From what I can gather, Fabia gas struts are 440mm in length. The ones I have been sent are 440mm in length, yet the older ones are 460mm?

I have installed the new ones just to see what they are like and they make the boot not open as far so I now it is at forehead level, and they are super aggressive - they fire the boot open and it looks/ sounds like the boot hinges are going to snap off.

The part number of the old ones are 6Y0827550C01S

Does anyone know if the additional 01S means they are for a different Skoda?

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks.

could it be possibe you bought the ones for an estate? Never mind, they are the same, the saloon's are different. 6Y0 denotes MkI Fabia though.

I have a few oem brand new struts here, and they are 460mm.

not sure, i Don't think so. They did not specify in the ebay advert whether it was suitable for the hatchback or an estate, just for a 1999-2008 Fabia.

The struts they have sent me say Skoda Roomster on them, but the dimensions all match up to the ebay advert which says they are for a Fabia?!?

oh, hmmmm. Do you want to sell them? haha. Could you tell me the part number on them please?

thanks

Roomster struts are designed for a much heavier boot lid so no wonder they have a kick :D

my oem ones are rated at 600N and the ones they have sent me are rated at 600N too though?

yeah, but they are not cheap.  They cost me £16 each, and postage will be about £3 or £4. :)  They are OEM though.

Part number is 6Y0 827 550 C

that makes things weirder. I'd just buy Jasons and know they're right :)
