Uprated anti roll bars

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

What uprated anti roll bars are available for the mk3 Octy? Is the one fitted to the vRS any bigger over a normal 'Elegance'.....?

Only really interested in a bigger rear bar.

Cheers in advance!

Steve

H&R, the correct P/N depends on your vehicle.

BTW, AFAIK themanwithnoaim installed one on his vehicle, I did the same on my MkII and just keep pondering do it again.

I have to say that I would not replace the rear ARB on my 4x4. I think the overall balance of the suspension is really excellent, and I am pretty certain that if you mess with the ARB it will throw it out. Don't forget that there are four elements to the suspension - the springs, dampers, ARBs and not forgetting the XDS (assuming your car has one). These all interact and it is the balance between them all that I think is extremely well judged leading to very well controlled handling. Mess with one and you could get into an endless hunting between all the elements to achieve such a good balance again. I say this as someone who is very critical of shortcomings in car suspensions generally.

Are you trying to reduce rear end grip then? I haven't changed bars on my wagon but having played with the wife's mx5 stiffening the bars always reduced grip at that end. Stiffer springs with softer anti roll bars always seemed to improve grip as a stiffer bar is trying to shift weight transfer from the outside wheel to the inside where its not needed during a corner.

From my limited experience when it understeers then we soften the front and when it oversteers we soften the back. If we stiffen either end then it makes that end loose grip quicker masking the grip limitation of the other end...

Obviously this depends on what happens to the suspension geometry notably the camber as the body roll increases

Don't forget your MX5 is rwd, not fwd like the Octavia, so completely different handling characteristics.

Effectively by beefing up the rear bar I would be softening up the front, this would actually improve 'turn in' ability and make the chassis more balanced, i.e less understeer - however if too stiff on the back, obviously lift off oversteer can be an issue if the driver isn't paykng attention.

HTH,

I never got around to fitting one as I couldn't find just a RARB everyone wants to sell them in pairs, I'm not interested is doing the front one.

Ops, sorry, it was my fault.

Anyway, I keep considering to put stiffer bars both on front and on rear. This would be a less invasive, albeit more expensive option to suspension setup.

I find the bodyroll of the Elegance really boring when bending at "good pace", notwithstanding the wonderful advantages of the AWD with respect to the plain FWD (IMHO).

Same. Does anyone sell just the rear?

What diameter is the stock arb?
