Roomster Radio Connectivity

Featured Replies

As Ive posted in another thread theres a Roomster about to join me on my travels and being new to Skoda not 100% sure what the connectivity for the radio is. I do know theres an aux 3.5mm jack socket to connect pretty much anything into which is fine.

Does anyone know if the phone connects via bluetooth or anything to display or control the music player? Suspect it wont. Ive also seen a gadget in the brochure on the Skoda web site, the photo seems to show and addon socket in the glove box that appears to connect via either micro usb or lightening and then gives the impression that the radio will then control the phones music player.

Can anyone shed any light on my options please.

Might have answered some of my own question, brochure on Skoda web site call the radio a Swing for the SE.

The gadget in the brochure is called MDI and seems to come with several cables to connect apple and other devices. No idea if there is cables intigrated into the cars loom that goes between the mdi and the radio.

Ive also seen mention a Columbus radio, will this need the maxidot to work correctly? Like the idea that it seems to have a sat nav built in.

Any further info would be appreciated please

Unless the Swing has been updated since 2013 when I bought my Roomster then it has no connectivity at all. The mdi interface was an optional extra - not standard. It has no 3mm jack. The best you can do is to play mp3 cds.

It is a VERY basic unit.

That is why I upgraded mine to the Amundsen.

They defo have an aux input located down behind the handbrake. Ive seen the little gadget in the brochure that allows direct connectivity to devices but having seen the price it really isnt worth it :0(

I've just bought a Roomster with an Amundsen stereo/satnav. Is the Bluetooth worth adding? Some built in ones I've experienced before are quite poor.

We had a 2007 Rooster with the basic radio, and it had a 3.5mm by the handbrake too. Our 2014 Fabia has the same again with the basic radio. My Mum has a Fabia Greenline and that came with the MDI below the glovebox. In my Superb I just fitted the MDI, with the connector in the cubby box. You can get 3.5mm USB and iPod connections but I think they are extra. My Mum doesn't use hers at all, so worthless to her!

At the end of the day it depends what you want, and what you think it's worth. I have the columbus on the Superb, and the MDI USB interface gave me a cheap way to add DAB radio and keep full OEM appearance and integration, because I got the MDI fairly cheaply and fitted it myself. It already has BT, and is good, but it's a different version to that in the Amundsen. On the other hand the Fabia doesn't have bluetooth which I want to add, and I wouldn't lose steering remotes or maxi dot display by fitting something aftermarket, because that car doesn't have them. So when I get time, the Furby will get what was in the Roomy, a JVC aftermarket with BT and DAB. To be honest the performance is way worse than the BT in the Superb, and the whole interface is hard to use, but it's aftermarket so what would I expect?

Builtin BT is very good and easy to use. I have it with Swing radio. Audio quality is perfect with A2DP (when listening to music) and everything works fine. When calling, audio quality and microphone sensitivy is just fine. Caller's name is displayed on Maxidot display and I can use steering wheels button to ansfer phone.

Swing radio's BT is OK but it doesn't display information about music you are playing and you can't use play or pause functions from radio.

I have also MDI and USB adapter to that. It works fine also.

Well now Ive had athe Roomster for a couple of weeks with it's standard Swing stereo I can confirm that it has the aux input socket down behind the handbrake lever but not used it yet. The big let down is the lack of bluetooth connectivity for handsfree more than audio connection. The Radio upgrade is too costly so not an option, have seen a company called xcarlink which sell a device that connects to the cd changer input of the radio which looks interesting as it gives bluetooth handsfree and audio connectivity.
