Columbus shows start screen and nothing else. No sound/sensors/satnav etc

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon GentleSkodaFolk,

My 57 plate Superb Elegance has been going fine until yesterday when I couldn't get a peep out of the Columbus stereo.

The 'start' screen comes on and then fades.

None of the functions (sat nav, maps, radio, phone, parking sensing display) works.

I have tried re-booting (<> and i as well as <> and eject), but all that happens is that the display goes off.

The details are :-

The big number is 3TO 035 680
With HW:H03 and SW:0904
Date 07.12.2008

Although the local dealer 'updated' the maps and software.... (that being said, I cannot get into a screen to find out!!)...

So is it totally buggerated or would the dealer (service due on Friday 13th!!) be able to do something?

HELP!!

(I did post a while ago, but this is SERIOUS!! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/291973-coulmbus-2gb-sd-card-firmware-updates/?hl=%202gb%20%20superb)

58 Plate!!

Dealers won't be able to do anything other than sell you a new unit I'm afraid. You sound as though you've got a damaged main board which essentially makes it not cost effective to repair (given the age of the unit) so I'd be looking for a newer unit.

Buy yourself a new "modern" double din unit. As your Columbus unit is crackered and will be an expensive swapat the dealers, and obviously is an aged unit now. some lovely ones out there from Alpine, Blaupunkt etc.

I had this problem on my 58 plate

Fix was provided by getting a reload of the firmware at the dealers in Newport South Wales. They quoted me an hours labour and did it all. Get them to upload the latest maps at the same time.

Happened a few years ago and I have never had a repeat (looking for wood to touch now).

That's the problem with lots of toys - when they break it can get very expensive!

Thanks all!!

Don't stop the advice!!

Cheers

I thought from your first post that the dealers had already looked at it and apparently updated the firmware and maps?

good evening

the fault your saying, am I right in saying the stereo shows the skoda sign and then switches off and keeps doing this??

if this is the case there is a firmware discs that skoda do have (Northampton dealer does) it flashes the software and reboots the unit

the process does take some time so don't expect to wait for it but works and fixes unit

hope this helps

Just spoken to Trust Skoda (Redditch), to whom I will have to pay £100 for them to diagnose the issue!! God knows what they would charge me to 'repair' it (It cost me £200 for a sw and maps update!!).

I'm getting an replacement unit from eBay (newer??!!) and they will even buy my old unit, all in all I should come out on top...(??)

NOT impressed with (Nooneshould)Trust Skoda in Redditch.
