My engine management light came on yesterday (yellow picture of an engine). I know it can relate to the oil level so I checked and discovered it had dipped below min. Topped it up, but the EML light is staying lit. Do I need to manually reset it (if so how?) or does this mean there is a different problem?

It depends on the fault.

But low oil shouldn't bring on the EML.

Read it and record the fault first, then reset it.

If the original fault was intermittent, if it stops being a fault, the light will go out after a few engine re-starts - but the fault will remain logged in the engine ECU - as suggested above, nothing beats getting the stored faults read, recorded and cleared - right now it is a guessing game!
