Right hand footrest for those that are interested

Featured Replies

If I cannot buy one I'll make it.
This is the second cardboard prototype, I'll make it in aluminium painted matt black with a rubber pad glued or screwed on.
The tab on the right will go under the plastic trim so it'll go 5mm further to the right with 3 carpet screws holding the left side.

Any constructive replies?

You could always make out of stainless steel chequer plate so no need for an extra piece of rubber matting.

Will it be at 90 degrees to the line of the car? I.E. at right angles tot he direction of travel? It will be more comfortable if the face is slightly angled so that a perpendicular line drawn from it will intersect the drivers seat just right of the centre line, I.E. where your right hip would be.

I like the idea of aluminium-easier to work and lighter!! rubber grip, even better!!

Looking good, I'll be watching with a view to ripping your Idea off :D

I'll be using these for holding the left side and as they come in 4s an extra fixing will be added before I make the footrest.
Even that cardboard prototype sits well with not a lot of movement and any pressure will be pushing it onto the floor.

Are these available anywhere (ie Halfrauds)?

I will be picking them up from my local Skoda dealer Here

Just make 100% sure it can't come loose, and get trapped under other pedals!

I assume you'll be notifying your insurers of the modification?  :giggle:

Does the vw Tiguan have the footrest, are there any owners or ex owners who might know the answer?

   If I'm not 100% sure of that it will not go in.

Will keep an eye on this one.

Was surprised coming from an Octy, that the Yeti didn't have a right foot rest.

From a buildings trades perspective.

A trowelful full of mortar sculpted to shape, with added SBR of course.

WILL NOT move, EVER! on/from the carpet.

My 2010 scout has a foot rest on the clutch and accelerator sides, which I assume is for when cruising on motorway.

So you must be able to get standard part?

Edited by snig71

The Octavia (including Scout) right hand footrest is part of the trim that runs from the footrest past the bonnet release handle to meet the bottom of the B-pillar.

I guess the footrest part could be cut off it and used somehow, but there is no way it will fit 'as is'.

Looks to me as if the Octy part wouldn't fit. Possibly due to different wheel arch design?

1st prototype made and fitted.
I'll see how it goes over the next week or 2 before I make the final one to fit but it feels OK.
Just need to adjust the fit to floor on the left but it's firmly fixed with just 2 carpet screws at the moment.

Plenty big enough and ample clearance between it and the throttle pedal. Coming along nicely.

Why not just a piece of ss chequer plate velcroed to the wheel arch?

I don't have big feet and the space between the wheel arch and the edge of the pedal is quite small already

My idea also gets round any safety issues re the foot rest in a possibly dangerous place, if for instance, the welt on your footwear got stuck under the edge of it?

I'll check later but the prototype seems to be coming along okay.

There is the same distance to the accelerator as between the brake and accelerator and its about the same width as the clutch rest.

There are no edges to get "caught" under as it goes down to the carpet.

The Tiguan has a protective covering over the shaped wheel arch so nothing actually available to buy separately.

Just a final update as it's been nearly a year.
Used a lot, even when sitting in the car while parked.
Stops the carpet getting worn/grubby and excellent for bracing yourself into the seat when cornering under cruise control.

Alloy painted black and topped with 2mm self adhesive neoprene.
