Replacing CD changer for Bluetooth...

Featured Replies

Just curious as I recently drove a Peugeot 207 which had the standard CD changer unplugged and a Bluetooth receiver module plugged in instead.

Is this an option on a MK1 Octavia or is Bluetooth not possible?

Search xcarlink on Google. I've just bought it, yet to have it fully working but I've got the iPod bit working.

Thats an interesting little gadget, wonder if itll work with the swing radio thatll come with my Roomy when it finally arrives.

I've got the ipod part of the xcarlink working perfectly, but really struggling with the bluetooth part.

I wonder if I can't have both the iPod and bluetooth at the same time (which would be a bit annoying), as I did have it working at one point when not using the iPod, I know that much.

I'm going to have a good read through the instructions, as it has a loop for still using the cd changer and you have to go to FM radio then back to CD changer to switch between iPod and CD Changer, so it could be just me the user and not the clever little device!

Possibly is like you say you have to have one or the other. Would definitely be annoying if you cant have both simultaneously

I e-mailed the support team last night to ask them, maybe it's a faulty box/bluetooth module? I hope not because it was a nightmare getting the stereo to fit flush back into the dash with more wiring. I will let you know what they come back to me with.

Update:

Spoke to the team who checked that I had it in cd changer mode on my stereo, which I replied yes!  :notme:

They then came back with the interface must be faulty, so please return and we'll send you a new one out. (Can't complain about the aftersales service, they've been quite quick to respond.)

Not wanting to have to take my dash apart (including the glovebox due to my sub wires), I had a play around with it. I pulled the USB connection for the bluetooth out and back in while it was switched in (rather than switched off as it asks in the manual) and lo + behold coming through the speakers it said phone connected! I tried a phone call and it worked. I switched off the radio and back on and it still worked so fingers crossed I've sorted it!

The audio is quite quiet through the bluetooth in contrast to the iPod connection, so when it switched back over I was deafened due to having my sub installed, so I'm going to have to remember to turn the volume up and back down between the 2.

In conclusion - Fully working this box is good, and has a lot less wires than the parrot system does and is also cheaper. Win win!
