PID not finding my phone

I'm a bit of a technophobe but after some 6 months of ownership I thought I should try and pair my phone with the PID. I have a Sony mobile, switched on Bluetooth and asked the PID to search for nearby devices. Nothing. Tried a couple more times; same result. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

 

And before you ask, I'm a bloke so of course I haven't looked at the manual!

Is the phone set to be visible to other devices?

I also think that one or the other (or both) asks for permission to talk to each other so keep an eye on both screens. First time I tried it my phone had gone to sleep so I didn't see the message'
