Audi TT long termer, not great news

Featured Replies

not to be mistaken for support of Audi but not great news for any of the VAG group to be honest.

Kenny,

Interesting that Journo gets car changed double quick. You or I ,weeks or months or longer ,that's the difference in my experience of REAL CS.

yes very true mate. Long gone are the days when VAG used to be super reliable. still decent but as cars advance the more issues you will get.

What happened to component Risk Analysis? High Tech or not?

now warranty claims are dealt with and accepted like having a free service its almost normal!

when I had an A5 it was in for warranty repairs 12 times in 4 years, our Polo and Mk6 golf was not much better. Our original fabia vrs got traded early due to issues aswell

Dad's 80k miler audi tt diesel hasn't batted an eyelid in 4+ years. :)

K.I.S.S.

The difference between very small batch / by hand manufacture and volume processes, until sorted.

Probably complex high Tech doesn't help.

Can't get excited about z random fault.

Didn't someone's Golf R have a gearbox issue?

Yet my Yeti which has just hit three years and 40,000 miles has never even blown a bulb.

Despite doing several track days, towing near it's maximum load and a bit of light offroading...

(Once you discount the service fault which dealer admitted to and fixed FOC)

More than can be expected of a diesel family car IMO.

My old Yeti is testament to how a car can never miss a beat even though it got regularly abused. A one off issue car can happen, a Friday car so to speak, also it depends on how knowledgeable the technicians are at the dealer ship, the guy employed to sort this TT out may well be a retard, an educated technician may well have resolved some of the issues, who knows.

Was that the Yeti that broke down in Reading last year,on the way to the Castle Combe Track day or was it the wife's?

That was the one.

The issue was down to a servicing issue by the dealer which they freely admitted to and repaired at their own cost.  Not warranty.

Completely not a build/quality issue or down to VAG.

My Wife's has been fault free.

As has both of my Mum's ones and my cousins.

In a combined ownership of 6 Yetis which adds up to 11 years and 90,000 miles we've never had a fault requiring warranty work.

So going off about VAG reliaility because of one car seems a bit daft to me.

You are always going to get the odd fault in any range of cars.

Every VAG I've had makes my Land Rovers look like the worst quaility cars out there.

Do I get 9 out of 10 for trying Richard? ;-) Bl00dy service department!!

This fellas is the joys of the internet and car forums/magazines/websites. If there's a lemon out there then the world and his wife will hear about it, it's the other XXX amount that have no issues that we/the web doesn't hear about. Both Richards and James' are testament to that - James' even being mentioned through SUK when it hit 100k. Yours are obviously of no interest Richard

They love me really...

my VAG record has been poor for reliability.....but I still buy them :) they aren't perfect but fit my needs and wants

and to be fair have always been fixed without question.

Golf Mk2 GTi

Polo 1.4

Polo 1.6 GTi

Octavia mk1 vRS

Fabia vRS

Audi A4 1.8T quattro

Octavia mk2 vRS

Audi A5 3.0tdi

Audi A6 3.0tdi

Octavia mk3 vRS

Audi S3

these are the cars my wife and I have had from VAG (odd non VAG in between) since 2002 and only cars to need no repair were the Octavia Mk3, Audi A6 and S3 so far, touch wood.

Bad cars no, just pushing technology boundaries, maybe! will still buy another :):):)

The fact remains that the journo got action, probably much better than you and me.

I wonder who will pick up the returned car next?

You are quoting and talking to yourself. :)

It's a stop/start issue.  That's all.

Boss,

As you know ,there is nothing wrong with talking to yourself,as in the business world ,it's the only way to get the answer you want to hear.

Stop/start issues, that top Audi tech couldn't resolve-never

That or pay people to nod and say yes. :D

To be honest I am finding the "battle" of the hyper hatches (Seat 280, Golf R, Focus RS, RS3 Merc AMG etc...) a bit boring now.

Fact is, none of these cars are going to compete with a fun track day toy.  And they can't use all that power control on the road anyway really for very long at a time.

I'm seriously considering cancelling everything, keeping the Fiesta ST for work and the track day toys for play.

The problem with a jack of all trades, is it has to be a compromise.

VAG - the best cars reliability wise I've owned, and both times I've done something stupid.

Fabia no1 - previous owner had neglected as a result needed a lot of work, couldn't afford it so moved it on. Still see it about occasionally. Lovely car. Number 2 - never had an issue with it until after a service some wiring was disturbed which melted through, worked on a lot. Never done anything other than routine maintenance.

I'm on my 4th  VAG (though the Seat Ibiza(mk1) kind of was part Fiat) and had no reliability issues, but have had a myriad of problems with other cars ive had, a Renault Megane with an intermittent indicator issue which in the the end I took to being a "feature" on the car... and the Fiat Punto which blew a head gasket....

I must have had very unlucky 11 lol
