Engine oil

Featured Replies

Anyone used, recommend (or not) Comline Quantum 5w 30. Fully synthetic.

Any reasons not to buy off Ebay Speed Parts 2012. Has 99.9% positive feedback.

Mainly, anyone know if engine oil is faked much???

Cheers

Tony.

Be very wary of buying oil off eBay, there is fake oil out there.

If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is, however the containers and labels used on fake oil these days is that good they no longer need to sell it cheap.

This is the highest spec oil VAG do, VW507.00. It is genuine oil (used in the main dealers) and is been sold here by an Audi main agent for £27 delivered to your door.

I have one sat in the garage as we speak...

Sorry to hijack but i've been to TPS today and gave my registration for my BKD engined, octy 2 and they gave me Platinum 5w40 which i used to use on my 1.9 a4 tdi. but i was led to believe that only the 5w30 longlife should be used in the 2litre pd?

The container says it meets 502 and 505, yet handbook says 505.01 or 507 on longlife servicing, i plan on servicing my octy every 6k or 6 months as i drive roughly 20k miles per year, should i be going back to tps and changing this oil or will it be suitable?

I have previously been told by TPS that the 5w40 is now low ash and therefore suitable for my DPF equipped motor and better for older engines. I chose to ignore this advise and get the 507 5w30 anyway as I think it is better to stick specifically to what is stated in the manufacturers handbook and anyway my car uses no oil between services so no need for the thicker stuff.

As your car has no DPF the 5w40 505.01 spec will be fine for fixed interval servicing at 1year or 10k mile services. If the car sups a bit of oil between services the 5w40 may well help as well.

its on 175k atm on a 58plate and doesnt use a drop, ive only had it since december mind, so only lived with it for a few months, ive got the oil now so ill give it a go, if any adverse affects do happen ill be sure to be asking TPS to help with any bills :-)

to be fair though they've done right by me with all my previous VAG motors

Dan - Don't hijack, start your own thread.

Sincere question Silver, How do you know this seller is selling genuine oil?

This is advertised as rrp £45 yet selling for £27.25, and by your "too good to be true" quote, it really does seem to be.

The Cardiff Audi site only sells second hand Audi's and I cannot find a Cardiff Audi website, only other advertisers of Mr Neil Harris's (Cardiff Audi) cars.

If you have other insight into this seller I would gratefully appreciate your information.

Cheers.

Assuming the car in question in the diesel vRS and not the Audi A4 then the car definitely does have a DPF, unless of course it has been removed.

Interesting advice from TPS, I'd not heard that before. I think I'd do the same as you though and stick to the VW507.00 as recommended by Skoda - specifically for use with DPF equipped vehicles.

I would go back and question TPS. The manufacturers instructions specifically say that you need an oil that meets VW507.00.

The Platinum oil they have supplied you with does not appear to meet the required specs.

Get yourself the oil linked in post #3. How much was the Platinum from TPS?

An educated guess, nothing more.

The seller in question is the franchised Audi main dealer in Cardiff.

My oil came from here:

Cardiff Audi

Wagtail Close

Cardiff Gate Business Park

Cardiff

Wales

CHF23 8RT

There are now also a number of Skoda dealers selling discounted parts online via eBay shops so it seems to be common practice within the UK VAG.

It is a valid question though, to be 100% sure you really need to buy direct in person.

Thanks for appreciating the valid question Silver, and not jumping down my throat as some would.

Re the other "oil" post, and your link, the named seller is logged as their parts manager at least, which would be more than enough credit for most people.

I think I will buy before it sells out, now.

Thanks again.

His profile suggests the car is a 1.9 diesel Elegance, hence my comment it doesn't have a dpf.

I thought you were replying to Dan Welburn about using the 5W40 oil?

Either way still a pd non vrs so no dpf.

Good spot, I had it in my head it was a vRS.
