Hi, bought a fabia vrs, was told cams are gone but its not making the expected cam noise its making a sort or pop/knock noise thats coming from the air box, im not sure what it is can anyone shed some light on it, or anyone local to me can come and check it out?

 

it still drives but no power and puffs alot of black smoke..

Sounds like the valves are bent and sticking slightly open causing popping back through the airbox, I think the belt went and has been changed without taking the head off to check the valves, check the cam timing as well, it sounds like it's been bodged.

possibly.. my mechanic is going to have a look at it tonight anyways..
