Octavia 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

Hello All, I've got an Octavia 1.9tdi & I'm going to get the cam belt done by my local garage, they have never heard of readjusting the timing electronically so I'm thinking of buying this lead

from Amazon   http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TYZBEE8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2NHG6PED5MI94&coliid=IP5X5K66B3XRL  & using the VCDS- lite programme

to finish off the setting up. Can anyone tell if I am on the right tracks?

Many thanks, Malc.

You need either a registered ($99) version of VCDS lite or full VCDS to check the timing.

Thank you Trundlenut, I'm now beginning to think about taking it to a Skoda dealer for them to set the timing for me.

Don't be surprised if they charge you at least an hours labour, so you could be looking at £80-100 depending where in the country you are.

If the cambelt is changed using the correct locking tools the timing should be bang on. VCDS allows you to check the timing, but doesn't actually allow adjustment.

VCDS is an aid to accurate timing adjustments according to how you want it set up. It plots on a graph exactly where you are according to TDC. You can then manually adjust the timing very easily with a couple of spanners. I usually set mine to +3, or is is +0.3 I cant remember but it helps cold starts and when i used to use WVO it was better for that too.

Oh, right, I saw a video on YouTube where someone was using a laptop & the VCDS system & I thought he was adjusting through the computer.

I think I'll wait until the job is done & see how it starts, sounds & pulls.

Thank you all for your valuable input!
