Laurin & Klement Electrical problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2008 Skoda Superb 2.0 TD Laurin & Klement model. I've had water ingress (fairly common problem) into the electrics causing short circuiting on the doors, seats and battery keeps draining. So far spent about £500 at independent Skoda specialist but garage can not find the affected cable(s). Can anyone offer any advice? I am based in West Yorkshire.

Thanks in advance.

What kind of advice are you looking for - a garage recommendation or looking to try and fix it yourself? I think most posters on here have been down the DIY route. There is a big thread at the top of the forum with lots of advice - have you read that?

A lot of advice might be along the lines of "it has the worst engine and electrical problems, try and shift it on..."!

A scan with VCDS might give some useful info. If your CCM has been well and truly soaked then you might need to replace it, if you have watermarks /tarnishing in any of the mutliplugs you are into quite a bit of work cleaning pins at least and if that dosn't work terminating in new pins. If you are up for the challenge then you can download the whole wiring diagram for the car from ERWIN for a small fee - it is huge though, so not for the feint-hearted - but will show you all the involved parts and connections in any particular circuit.

What have the garage done for your £500?

sorry to hear about that mate ..£500 down the drain huh?  :| ..i have the same water ingress problem on my superb too ... Unfortunately i don't know how to fix it myself as i have no clue about wiring and soldering if there is any damage to it! (only wished if some1 helped me with it....) .. but if you know how to fix things a little then i would suggest you to check out that thread about "water ingress...solved" which is PINNED on the first page under Skoda Superb 1.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have no car engineering skills so I was really just after advice for what would be the best way to get the car fixed (assuming it can be cost effectively). If someone can recommend a garage with considerable experience of fixing this problem in the West Yorkshire area that would be great.

Most of the cost so far has been diagnostic I think.

Thanks,

In that case, you "just" need to find a garage that know what they're doing. Sorry, I can't help there. If you don't get any suggestions here, it is worth heading over to www.UKPassats.co.uk - these cars are basically a B5.5 Passat, so anyone who is good with them should be able to help here.

It does sound like you are in a bit of a world of pain; if you've had much water in the car and it had gone unchecked for a while then the damage could be extensive. If you can't find someone who's sorted this sort of thing before I'd really be thinking about getting shot of it somehow. Before spending much money trying to fix the electrical issues you have you should also consider the known issues with the oil pump on the 2.0 (it has been discussed on here quite often), and see if you fancy the risk.

I had a 2007 model the same as your nearly six years ago and was lucky enough to have all the water problems sorted under warranty. Sold the car to my son who had the oil pump problem.

My laboured point is the the local Skoda dealer was able to tell me of a VW specialist nearby who did all the work with the oil pump and new turbo, ouch it was for me and my son though still but a thousand pounds cheaper than the dealer.

Yarnbury,

Further to the advice you've already been given, has the car been scanned with a diagnostic tool such as VCDS? If so do you have / can you get hold of the scan output and post it here?

What exactly did the garage do? Did they remove the passenger seat and check the CCM module and then unwrap the wiring bundles and check the nodes / connections in both the front and rear footwells on the passenger side? I'm surprised a specialist garage hasn't been able to narrow down where the issue is as this problem and various how to guides for fixing it are very well documented on the internet.

This is a good guide by nackuk, another user on this forum, on fixing this issue - it is linked to from the thread jimbof / Hermon mentioned that is pinned at the top of this sub-forum.

Where in West Yorkshire are you located?
