I have a 2006 Octavia auto I'm having trouble with the reversing sensors

I have replaced 1sensor

But sometimes when I select reverse the picture on the dash isn't there but if I deselect reverse and then re select or just wriggle the gear shift it works

What I want to know is what triggers the sensors into action ?

Is it a connection onto the gear shift

Get it scanned, will tell you which one is causing the fault. I have a loose connection on one of mine

The OEM system is controlled via CAN. Do you reversing lights work OK?

Agree it is worth scanning but do you get a long beep and have you checked your reverse lights work when the picture isn't showing? If the lights dont work at that time, it could suggest the common problem of the connection to the reverse light switch being corroded or wearing through. If so it is easily fixed by removing the airbox in the engine bay and repairing the wires to the switch.
