The girl has to go - pricing help!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, unfortunately the time has come & the girl has to leave.... I've got a new company car arriving on the 1st and 3 cars on the drive will be a squeeze :(

I've checked some prices on eBay & here on the classifieds, seems things aren't moving. (I can understand as people prefer more economical cars on petrol, tax, insurance etc).

My vRS is a 2002 and has wanted for nothing in my ownership, literally got a long list of things I've spent cash on, so its in decent shape & done around 115k. Also has a Shark stage1 map.

I was thinking for quick sale around £1250, but is this even too much? I kinda need it going by end of the month, so want to price to sell!

Let me know what you think guys! :) many thanks, Mark.

That doesn't sound too much to me at all. If anything it's too low even for a quick sale. Suppose you need to consider what it owes you and if you would be happy to sell it for that. If it's a clean example I'd say 15-1700 ono for a quick sale. But then if your priority is to get rid quick then...For example there's a yellow one on there, indeed with lower mileage but the electric mirrors and rear wiper aren't working, up for 2.5, just to put it in context. It's a tricky one because some do ask silly money for them sometimes, but for less than 2 they're generally a bargain on sensible miles and well maintained. Not sure I've helped much. In answer to your question, no, I don't think you're asking too much. For under 1300 it sounds a serious bargain, wish I could afford it I'd buy it.

thanks for the reply YC.

I'd like to think its a really nice example, but lesser ones I can find on eBay don't sell at their asking prices, so I assume it's only worth what I can sell it for.

I guess that is true, shame really as we know these cars are worth every penny when priced right. It's a tricky one isn't it. You've got until the 1st so try it on auto trader online, pitch it for a bit more and see what kind of interest you generate. Then in the last week of March if still not sold drop it to the 1250 no offers? That's probably what I'd do.

sounds a good plan to me, thanks for the tip!

By the way, I'm near Bridgend if your resolve breaks & you fancy a bargain :)

Mate I'd love to but I think the Mrs would actually kill me and throw my corpse in the pond the amount of time I spend on mine. Still someone will get a good buy, hope they do it justice. You could advertise it on here as well.

yeah, was a bit like that when I told her indoors I maxxed my company car allowance, but hey-ho, there's not a pond in range here

What did you get by the way?

BMW 520D

Nice wheels! Not a bad swap I suppose, shame you can't keep both though!

Just for comparison, I happily spent £1000 on my octy vrs (2001) just last week, knowing it needed a service, cambelt and general sprucing up!

One with good history and record like yours should shift easily for £1400-1500 I would have thought...

Paid 1100 for my 02 needing a few bits tidying + locks n winder ect

Would have ripped your arm off for a good one needing nothing at 1250

A good one with proper recent history has to be 1500 minimum but as you say it's gotta go so somebody will get a bargain put up at what you will be happy to take for it +100 as people will allways come and knock you down a bit

my original estimation was £10 out... someone has just driven away after winning my eBay auction which was bid up to £1260.

Sad to see it go? Shame but at least you're sorted now. Can you get away with remapping a company car? haha

  • Author

Not that sad, happy to see it go to some nice people & hope they will enjoy it too.

That's good, makes the pill much easier to swallow.
