Dsg problem

Featured Replies

Lost all odd numbered gears and dealer said it was caused by mechatronic unit failing.Although out of warranty skoda agreed to supply a new one free of charge with a reasonable contribution towards fitting.Dealer has not been able to make box work and says it needs a new gearbox and Skoda are not being very generous with their contribution. My concern is that when talking to mechanic he said he was able to get gears to connect manually but the mechatronic unit was not producing enough pressure to engage gears. skoda have said.the stiffness is the problem and recommend a new (expensive)box. Any ideas to repair box or to persuade Skoda that a gear box on a car less than four years old with 42000 on the clock should not self destruct?(car is an 11 plate octave 1.4 tsi with 7speed dsg box)

Surely the agreement to contribute so much to the mechatronic unit is a sign that they are liable due to a manufacturing fault or similar?

Have you spoken to Skoda UK directly or has it been the dealer talking to them? If you have a full Skoda service on the car I would force the issue with Skoda UK as there are known issues with DSG boxes. I think there was someone on the Superb forum with a similar problem recently.

Skoda have now improved their offer but it still leaves me with a bill for £2500(whole Bill 6000)but I still feel that their are too many unanswered questions. Apparently the new mechatronic unit has jammed in the gearbox so they have to replace the whole gearbox and mechatronic unit.reasons given range from selector being too stiff for unit and it has jammed to it just happens sometimes. The end result is I'm still facing a big bill and the garage is getting a big profit.Giving Skoda another week to come up with a better deal(unlikely) then going to try and persuade garage that they have some responsibility.Car now off road 4 weeks and gearbox when eventually ordered is at least another 2 week delay. Not happy!

Eventually got dealer to agree to keep my contribution down to £2000. .After a long delay waiting for new box I eventually got my final bill which much to my surprise was just over £500.Skoda came up trumps in the end!

"15-3-2015: DSG problems with 42k mile 2011 Skoda Octavia 1.8TSi DSG. Lost all odd numbered gears Skoda dealer said it was the Mechatronic unit and agreed to change it for a nominal fee even though almost a year out of warranty. This failed to correct problem. Gears will work when physically moved by hand but not when attached to Mechatronic unit. Dealer now says needs a new gearbox and offers some goodwill but leaves owner with a big bill. Recomended fedauto.co.uk"

Terry111, Is this yours or another but with a 1.8 engine?
