93k miles in - first problem!

Featured Replies

After 93,000 trouble free miles, have now got my first issue with the Superb:

Started last week - folded mirrors weren't folding out on starting the engine, had to do it manually.

This morning - couldn't operate electric windows from drivers side, mirrors wouldn't operate, door wouldn't unlock from the switch, plus when I tried to lock the car, it only locked the passenger side, drivers side wouldn't lock.

All the electric windows and unlock switch on the passenger side work ok.

Appears to be some electrical gremlin on the drivers side.

It is with the repair agent now.

Noooo, when I read the thread title I was expecting a major mechanical malfunction. Phew!

This issue sounds very similar to one reported on here a few times and quite a lot over in the MkII Octavia forum.

The wires in the door (that pass through the flexible little rubber tube in-between the hinges) become brittle and break.

Fingers crossed its a simple fix!

Exactly that.

Whilst they could just repair the wires and patch it up, it would go again. So the lease company and repair agent are going to replace the driver door control panel and associated wiring loom which cones with it (I believe). This may seem drastic and expensive but I don't want a repeat in 6 months time.

It was off the road yesterday and is going back in today to be completed.

It's annoying but not a major issue. Car has still been ultra reliable.

I wonder if they would be prepared to divulge the approximate cost for the work?

All of the threads I've read have involved an isolated repair, a quick fix if you like.

The cost of a complete repair would be interesting.

Glad its proved to be a relatively easy diagnosis, albeit annoying at the same time.

Let's hope the old girl keeps thundering on uninterrupted for a good few more thousand miles yet!!

I'll be able to find out, shouldn't be an issue.

Turns out they are just replacing the loom which runs from the drivers control panel through the door into the main car.

I can honestly say, and as per my main thread on the car, this is the first real issue I've experienced. Technician said he'd done loads of wiring looms on the VAG cars but nothing on anything this new but given the mileage he felt it was about right.

All fixed now and working, was only a 2 hour job in the end.

Still waiting on the costs but will advise once I know.

Try a GM (Daewoo) Chevrolet for minor leccy faults, seat airbag wiring too short, move the seats and the airbag lights come on and stay on....doh
