whats this mount/ bush thats dropping to bits pls?

Featured Replies

Yes that's the gearbox mount I believe. Mine also looked a little shall we say worn when I fixed the starter wire issue on the weekend. Options to replace are new stock, second hand (take your chances) or an after-market but they can be a little harsh for a daily.

Is this just a matter of unscrew and attach? or does the gearbox need to be jacked up?  I cant find any info on forum for this mount, seems only mount people change is the dog bone :P

If you have a guide etc please can you link

I might have to have a look at mine this weekend I have a bit of a thud every time I accelerate hard and when I let off the throttle. It's not the Dogbone because I already have a Powerflex one.

Need to have a bit of a investigation I feel.

I'd imagine you'd have to support the engine's weight from underneath with a trolley jack, probably a good idea to get some flat wood to help spread the weight as you don't want to damage the sump or gearbox casing depending on where you choose to support the weight from. Similar procedure to doing the clutch I suppose. Should then be a case of unbolting the old knackerd one and fitting the shiny new one in it's place! Would seem to be a fairly straight forward job looking at it. I think I'd go for new bolts too on something as critical as an engine mount, should be able to get them from a dealer. I doubt the mount will come with any they never usually do!

Just done this, it a easy job. 20min -50mins

after battery removed/ air box

only need:

17mm spanner, you cant get a socket in

15mm spanner, cant get a socket in

17mm socket

I needed a hammer, as old one wasn't budging.

I loosely tightened the top screws, the fixed the side ones. As they need a little wiggling the gearbox to get aligned.

Oh and i jacked the gearbox up just incase..

I used old nuts they where all silver and looked in good nick :P

Sounds easy enough. Regarding the bolts though, for what they cost, I'd have personally replaced the bolts on a component as critical as holding your engine in place lol. Will probably be fine though...

TBH im guessing the only or most important are the 2 bolts that go into the chassis, and well these points are thin and a bit crappy, slightly corroded and a little rusty .. these anchor points concern me more, i used some Krust, but you would have thought a nut on the end of the bolt would have been a better design, if the threads wear / corrode, nothing stopping them screws slipping out.
