Rear accident camera

Featured Replies

Has anybody wired a rear view dashcam in please?  Where's the easiest place to get a switched supply from without breaking anything?

I don't really fancy running wires all the way back past the airbags if I can help it, but I've put one in the front so perhaps it's the way to go.

Or swapping the fuse for the rear socket to a switched.

Thanks

Ed

When I fitted my front camara I ran power up to the interior light switched off the ignition from the fuse panel. I then fitted a 12v to 5v usb converter with two sockets. It now powers the front cam and has capacity to feed the rear above the head lining when I fit it.

You should be able to pick up a switched live from the rear wiper motor, so you can mount it in the back window and keep all the wiring in the rear hatch or estate tail gate

I've just installed a rear view camera, but have it running off the 12v socket. The cable is wedged under the boot lid seal and then jumps up to the boot lid in the top left corner. It's neat-ish, but not perfect.

Has anyone actually managed to take power from the rear wiper motor as suggested above. I'm fine with the electronic side of doing it, its just getting the trim off and back in one piece that worries me!

Any one with any experience of removing and refitting the trim? I would be greatful for any advice.

Thanks Si.
